. a citizen of-the United States,and a resident of the ci'tyof New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a bottle stopper or cap whichmay be attached to and looked upon a bottle or similar structure to seal such a structure, and its object is to provide a simple and efhcient construction for such a device.
I will describe my invention in the following specification and point out the novel features thereof in claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 represents, in sectional side elevation, the upper portion of a bottle with one of my improved stoppers attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly in section, on an enlarged scale, of one of my bottle stoppers, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation, partly in section, of the same stopper. Fig. 4 is a sectional plan viewof a portion of the flange of'one of my stoppers showing the form of one of its folds before it is )ut onto a bottle.

I The cap is first constructed with a straight flange with fluted portions as shown at 26 in Fig. 4. The cap is first pressed down upon the mouth of the bottle, jar or other structure to which it is applied, which structure may be filled with desired material. 23 is thus compressed between the mouth of the bottle and the top of the cap to effect a tight closure of the bottle, and the sides of the flange surround the bead 011 the bottle neck. The flange is of suflicient depth to extend down over the shoulder 11 formed by the bead. l/Vhile thus held under pressure over the mouth of the bottle the lower portion of the flange, at the fluted portions about its periphery, is folded together in the manner shown at .24 in Fig. 2. double effect; inthe first place, it draws the straight sides of the flange tightly about the head of the bottle, thus increasing its sealing effect, and in the-second place, it causes the lower edge or rim 25 of the flange to be drawn in under the bead of the bottle neck and thus securely locks the cap onto the bottle. At the same time it forms upon the outer surface ofthe flange a plurality of projecting shoulders, parallel with the axis of the bottle, of double the thickness of the metal of the flange.
