Description
No. 897,513. PATENTED SEPT. 1, 1908. c. ANDREWS, JR. TOASTER.
APPLICATION FILED PEB.6,1908.
UNITED STAT ES PATEN heron CHARLES ANDREWS, JR, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO ANDREWS WIRE & IRON WORKS. OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION O1 ILLINOIS.
TOASTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Sept. 1, 1908.
Application filed February 6, 1908. Serial No. 414,619.
To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I, (imntns ANDREws, Jr., a citizen oi the. United States, residing at Rockford. in the county of \Yinnehago and State oi Illinois. have invented certain new and uselul Improvements in 'loasters, 01" which the following is a specification.
'lhe object of this invention is to construct a toast r in which a perforated bottom plate is at varying distances from, the wire top, in order that the heat may act uniformly on the articles being toasted.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top view of the toaster. Fig. 2 is an underface view. lfig. 3 is a vertical section.
The sheet metal bottom and support for the wire top is formed of a single piece, and comprises the main portion 1 formed with perforations 2, and depressed in its center. The edges of the center portion are rolled to form the supports 3 and again turned back to form the wire rests 4. The wire top 5 has its edges located Within the rests 4. A handle (3 is formed of Wire, and hasits ends inserted through openings in the rests 4 and turned down through openings in the main portion 1, and turned back to form clcnchers. This construction makes a three part toaster,
namely, the sheet metal section, the wire top and the handle, which are cheaply constructed and put together.
By forming the main portion so that it is depressed at its center, the heat being greater at the eentcr will have Farther to travel alter passing through the perforations before com- A ing in contact with the article being toasted,- than the heat which is not so intense passing through the perforations near the outer edge of the toaster. By locating the perforations at varying distances from the wire top, the heat will be uniform throughout the extent of the toaster.
I claim as my invention.
A toaster comprising a perforated sheet metal main portion having its center pressed and formed with V shaped edges, the out or walls 01 the edges formed with rests, and a top seated in the rests in a fixed manner.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit nesses.
CHARLES ANDREWS, JR
