UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY REASER, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO LEWIS REASER, OF READING,
PENNSYLVANIA.
DAMPER-RE GULATOR.
Application filed April 8, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY REAsER, citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Damper-Regulators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in damper regulators adapted for attachment to a stove or furnace pipe.
The object of the present construction is to provide a pipe section that may be cast or stamped in two sections or portions and fastened together by means of rivets or other suitable means.
Another object is to provide a device whereby the smoke and air inlets are automatically operated by the movement of a single hand lever or bar which looks itself automatically at any position in which it may be placed, thus overcoming the danger of shifting after it has been set and overcoming the danger of changing the draft accidentally.
My invention is more fully described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of my device with the slide plate partly open; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. and
Fig. 3 is a plan view.
The numeral 1 designates the body which is composed of two sections or members, each of which is formed with ears by means of which they are riveted together.
The front section is formed with a boxlike portion of substantially rectangular outline 2 and in its face near the top I provide an opening 3. Along the vertical edges of this opening I form, integral with the body, slides 4 and in this slide is arranged a sliding plate 5 adapted to move vertically and to open or close said opening 3. Near the lower end of this plate I form an opening 6 and immediately above this opening I form a projecting lip 7, while below the opening I form a projecting pin 8.
The numeral 9 designates the sliding plate arm, the upper end of which is perforated to Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 1, 1908.
Serial No. 425,842.
engage the pin 8 and the extremity of which is adapted to enter the opening 6 and to be engaged and held in position by the lip 7.
The numeral 10 designates the damper arm and is secured at one end, pivotally, to the lower end of the sliding plate arm 9 so that they move together. This damper arm is removably secured at its opposite end to the damper trunnion 11 by means of a cotter pin passing through the end of said trunnion.
The under side of the damper arm is provided with a lug 12 which is adapted to engage one of a series of indentations 13 formed in a semi-circular line in the face of the casing 2, said damper arm being preferably made of a material with sufficient spring and hav ing sufficient set to insure the said lug engaging one of said indentations.
As a precaution against the lug 12 wearing or otherwise failing to properly engage the indentations, I provide a supplemental or safety catch in the form of a raised rib 14 of approximately semi-circular form, arranged within the line of the indentations 13, said rib having notches in its upper face and a rib 1.5 on the under side of the damper arm adapted to engage said notches.
To take the device apart, the cotter pin is removed from the trunnion 11 and the piv otally joined damper arm and sliding plate arm may be lifted from their places, while the slide may be easily removed. This feature of quick and easy assembling of the parts is an essential feature of the invention as is also the fact that there are no operating parts, save only the damper plate, inside the smoke pipe so that the danger of operating parts corroding and becoming useless is entirely removed.
Having thus fully described. my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A stove pipe having a rectangular face portion, an opening in said face portion, a guideway on either side of said opening, a gate sliding in said guideways, an arm pivotally attached to the outside of said gate and having a pivotalconnection at its other end to a resilient damper-controlling rod, a revolving damper mounted on a shaft, said shaft being controlled in its movement by said damper- In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
controlling rod, a segmental rack on the outin presence of two Witnesses.
side of said face portion, an auxiliary rack HARRY REASER outside of said segmental rack, and pavvls on 5 the under side of said dampenconti'olling rod Witnesses:
for engaging said racks and locking the gate E1). A. KELLY,
and damper in any position. ELMER WV. DECK.
