I '0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, JAMES C. lime rein, e l citizen of the United States, e resident of the city of St. Louis, State oil Mir-swirl. invented certain. new and useful ll ments in Books, of which the iollmvii r specification, and which are i llustr accom anying drawings, 'h'irnn. thereo The invention relates to what is col-nine known as the loose leaf type of book wh the leaves are in lependently and. weoy secured within a. hinder, the object of the invention being however, to provide means for permanently securing a. binder after the sheets or leaves have all been inserted there by securing the convenience of the loose leafed binder while the hook in proper-mien, and the guaranty of authenticity in!" x in a permanently bound book, mean, provided for rendering frmnlulent slur tion of leaves practically impossible oil per formance, or if acconi )lished c 1; cen- 'hese 0 ji ts are at tained by the construction .hereinsiter scribed and which is illustrated in the nccom-- penying drawings, in whichw Figure 1 is a plan View of the been in its being broken away to show the ief-A es; lr 'iq. 2 is a sectional View on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is apers ective of the book in its per ig..4 is a. sectional iew on line j440f Fig.3; Fig.5isedetsil onen the sa1neline drawn to a larger scale; Fig. 6 is' gi perspectwe of one. of the studs .1-...31'1'l11 connection with the binder. Thebook cover com rises the side boerde A-B, preferably ri id, t l6 bowed hack (1* and the side plates D J, one of these plates he 1g hinged to the bee Thebeek'fi is formed upon the curved metal ilete F halving a.- lat-- eral extension d, which .orms the base of the side plate I) The side plate E i115 annetal base plate of the same form as t e member integral with plate ll.
There is a cover a, of fabric overlying the book side plates and sides of. the boohi nnd the'lining b for the SlLlllG lIlOIIlbGIS, this cover and lining constituting in the eonstruetien illustrated in the drawings, hinges between the back and the covers A, B.
Binding dusts G G, as ,nmny' asmity be do sired, two eing shown, are fixed in the side remcved end snhstiti plete D, and engage the side plate 1!. These tired. in side the following mm'n'm" l l oi sonniwwliet red need. i c'n l.e :.-c1.' iflror plate (Z, on its shank son 1': head and a. fi let at the one i and howl, is cod into the elect pressm cimtrecting it tion oftfie shank i1 J end. ontvv'ei'diy' 12".. k the miter face of the plate (5. 'llhc or ente ends of the posts are somewhat reduced. in demoter and slmul dered to fit Within and extend through suitable apertures in the plate is, the shoulders formed on the posts provid w s, hem-lit; for the plate. This end of th st is provided with a count-e1 hor socket, the inner portion of whici'i. threaded. A screw bolt M fits Within t. v.cchet and secures the plate E to the 0st.
The caves or shot "U, ere perforated. as shown at o to receive the pi s G G, end while the hook is in. proc or development leaves are removed and it by first rewriting turning beckv re 'ilste ii. elm-meter are specially m.le; ted for making a permanent record. The lezwes ere FQIY-IU'V able for convenience in rrihing' or in'iptinting the records thereon, but the records hav ing been completed it lJQP-OIHGS important that its permenency should assured by an; inherent guaranty h t lem have not been ted. To this end the invention contemphttes the perm. nent binding of the boot. upon completion of the record and this is accomplished by sub-- stituting for the .GW bolts M studs .lI-l, the same as used in. itttai thing plate (Z, and seeming them in the same 1nennor.
As a further safe guard. egeinst tempering with the hook, the lm'wes me made in pairs, the inei'nhers of-cecl'i pair being on opposite sides of the middle of the book. This is. so cured by collecting the leaves ini'zcm'led fore particular book into a bundle, resting their outer edges upon a convex. plate to shape them up to concave form, as shown at p', then. securely chomping the bundle and trim; ming the inner edges of the leavesuare ts shown in the drawings, and. than w die the bundle is still within chi-mp, perforating he 'lE-dWGLi 1' n extreme 1 in nu.
the posts to the I .10 leaves for those once permanently bound and thickness, screw .back, filing posts fixed in one 0 the leavesfor reception of the binding posts. The sheets being aged assume their proper places as to size w on arranged in numerical A book thus constructed is ractically a erfect guaranty against fraudu ent manipuation as the binder cannot be c ened w1thout mutilating its parts, which will be a parout, and once opened cannot be reboun and it is practically impossible to substitute new to give them the exact size and finish.
I claim as my invention 1. In a book, in combination, aback having side plates one thereof bein hinged to the the sidcsand engaging the hinged side such posts having their outer ends socketed, the socketsbeing threaded at their inner ends, the walls of the outer ends of the socket being reduced in bolts for engaging the threaded portions of the sockets and studs adapted to interlock with the outer ends of the posts.
2. In a book, in combination, aback hav ing side members, one of which is hinged to the back, filing osts fixed in one side member and engageable with the other side mem ber, the outer ends of the osts being formed for engagement successive y with temporary and permanent means for securing them to the slde member with which they engage.
3,. In a book, in combination, a back having side members, one of which is hinged to the back, filing gosts fixed in one side member and engagea le with the other side member and having their outer ends socketed, and
studs for engaging the sockets,
their shanks channeled.
4. In a book, in combination, 'a back,
straight filing posts carried by and transverse of the back, and leaves impaled upon the osts, the outer edges of the leaves oollectlvely presenting a curved surface.
