BED-SPRING-SUPPORTING FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
Application filed September 16, 1907. series No. 393,003.
To all whom it may concern:
Bepit known that' I, CHARLES P. TRIMBLE, a resident of Bellevue, in the county of Alleghenyand State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bed-Spririg-Supporting Frames; and I do hereby declare. the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
e My invention relates to bed spring supporting frames, and has for its object to provide a frame which can be hung from and used with iron or Wooden bed-steads of vary- 111g SIZES.
I will now describe my invention so that others skilled in the art .may manufacture and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 isa plan view showing my invention applied to a frame'formed in two sections and in an open position with the spring removed from one section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same in its closed up position. Fig. 3 is a cross-section, showing the manner of application to the rails of a bed-stead. Fig. 4 is adetail perspective view of one of the frame supportingmembers.
Like symbols of referencc indicate like parts in the; several figures.
In the drawings, 1 represents the upper frame of the spring andis shown in two sections 2, joined together by the hinges 3 connecting the middle bars 4 of the frame. The rectangular lower or spring-sup porting frame 5 is provided withcross-bars and between the frames 4 and 5. are located the, helical springs 7, connected at their lower ends to e the frame 5 and cross-bars 6, their upper ends being connected to interwoven wires 8 carried by the frame 4. Slid ably and pivot-ally connected to the cross-bars 6 are the hangers or supporting members 9, for connecting the frame 5 to the side rails 10 of the bed, as shown in Fig. 3, and such members are formed of the straps or stirrups 11, which are pivotally mounted on a rod 12 passing through holes 14 in the lips or lugs,13 on said I stirrups and through elongated slots 14 in the cross-bars 6 and the end portions of the frame 5. The. rod 12 isprovided with heads 12 at each end for holding it in place, while centrally of each str n r stirrup is fixed a hanger 15 which is secured by a rivet 16, the
- hanger being provided with a hooked end 17.
upon the wooden slats of the bed, as the hangers in such position will not interfere with the side rails of the bed.
When the device is to be used in connection with a metal bed,- the hangers 15 are swung outwardly to the position shownin. Figs. '1 and 3 and their hook-shaped ends 17 engaged with the side rails 10 of the bed.
In case of any variance in the sizes of beds as frequently ha pens with beds of different manufacturers, t e hangers 15 may be shifted, such movement being permitted by the slots 14 in the cross-bars 6 and the ends of the frame 5 through which the rod 12 by which the hangers are supported extends.
It will be evident that my improved construction can be used in connection with a single bed-spring frame, and thatv various modifications and changes may be made in the. constructiou'ol' the device without do parting from the spirit of the invention oi sacrificing any of itsadvantages.
I claim i 1. In combination a bed-spring supporting frame provided with slots, stirrups for said frame, a rod passing through said slots and through said stirrups for pivotally and slidably mounting said stirrups, and hangers on said stirrups for engaging with a bed to support said frame. i
2. In combination a bed spring supporting frame provided with elongated slots, a rod passing through said slots, stirrups pivotally mounted on-said rod, and hangers on the. stirrups for engagement with the side rails of a bed. i
' In testimony whereof, I, the said CHARLES P. TRIMBLE, have hereunto set my hand.
