This invention relates to that type of washing machines in which a revoluble pronge dasher is given a reciprocating rota motion on a vertical axis within the tub or ousing of the apparatus. And the present invention has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation and arrangement of the drivin mechanism in which the heavy fiy-wheel generally employed is housed in a safe and compact manner and entirely out of the way, and with which a very high speed of the fly-wheel is attained during the normal speed of the operat ing mechanism with a consequent uniform and easy 0 eration of the apparatus, all as In the accompanying aw1ngs:-Figure 1,

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the tub or casing of the apparatus, preferably of the cylindrical form shown. Such tub has the usual hinged top or cover 2?,and closed bottom 3 surrounded by the usual marginal flange or chime 4, as shown.

'16 is a vertical journal stud secured centrally to the bottom of the tub, and provided with a bearing collar 17 intermediate its height as shown.
18, is a horizontally arranged fiy-Wh-eel of a diameter somewhat less than that of the tub, and located in the cavity at the underside of said tub, formed by the flange or so chime 4. Such fly-wheel is journaled on the shaft 16 above the bearing collar 17, and the bearin between the hub of the fi wheel and the collar 17 is preferably of the all type, as shown.
19, is a pinion having a fixed-connection to the fly-wheel 18, and meshing with and receiving motion from a gear wheel 20 keyed or otherwise secured on the upper end of the shaft 15 aforesaid. 99
21, is the crank arm, above referred to, 'ournaled loosely upon the journal stud 16 elow the bearing collar 17 aforesaid and provided at its outer end with a vertical tubular bearing for the shaft 15 aforesaid.
In the operation of the above described fiy-whcel mechanism, the ear wheel 20 ha an orbital travei around t c axis of revolution of the crank arm 21, and being held from rotation on its own axis by a rigid conrec nection to the pitman 13 is ada ted to inrpart to the pinion 19'and to the y-wheei IS a high speed adapted to render the operation of the other portions of the mechanism easy and uniform.
Having thus fully described my said invention what'I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
