DAVID GESTETNER, OF TOTTENHAM HALE, ENGLAND.
STENCIL-PRINTING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4, 1908.
Application led November 19, 1907. Serial No. 402,806.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID GESTETNER, a Subj ect of the King of 1Great Britain, residing at Tottenham Hale, in the county of MiddleseX, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Connected with Stencil-Printing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvementsin and connected with stencil and ink carrying frames of the character described in U. S. A. Letters Patent dated th 28th November 1905 N0. 805,536. A
I will describe my invention by the aid of the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a complete stencil and ink carrying frame constructed according to my invention, Fig. 2 is a view of the ink pad separately and Fig. 3 is a back view of the stencil and ink carrying frame.
a is the frame, which as shown is made in one piece with the ink proof-backing b, and c is the ink pad over which the stencil (not shown) is placed. Heretofore, the ink pads c on suchv frames a have been made of porous paper or of a fine fabric, on which a supply of ink has been spread and over which the stencil is placed. Now when printing from such frames by rolling pressure as heretofore, the ink is caused by the roller to spread laterally which sometimes results in soiling' the frames and work. According to my present invention I substitute for the said porous paper or fine fabric, a sheet of finely and closely perforated bibulous paper `c and spread the ink over the same. This results in4 some of the ink entering the perforations, by which means a hold is obtained on the general body of ink andthe liability to lateral spreading of the ink is thereby prevented or greatly reduced, while a possible flow of the ink when the frames are stored is prevented or reduced. This construction of ink pad also facilitates printing by means of direct pressure from a pressure plate instead of by rolling pressure. I also according to my invention mount the ink, pad on a metal or other backing which latter and the frame are so formed that the ink pfad with its backing can be readily removed om the frame and another ink ad substituted for it. For thispurpose t e frame a is formed at each end with aninclined clip d and on each side with one or more projections e.
The ink pad backing f is formed with inclined ends f so as to enable it to be readily passed under the clips d and against a pro-- jection or projections e near one side edge of the frame, when the opposite edge of the backing f will be held by the projection or projections e near the opposite side edge of the frame. The ink pad c may be connected to the backing f or it may be held thereon by being assed under the clips f2 located upon the 1n pad backing. I also provide the frame with means for holding an indicating cardvto indicate the matter contained on the stencil. For this pur ose I form a clip g along each side ed e o the frame on the oposite side to that olding the ink pad. Under these clips the indicating card h is slipped and I form ribs i near each end of the frame to prevent the indicating card slipping endwise. These ribs i also act to stiffen the frame.
What I claim is 1. In stencil and ink carrying frames for stencil printing apparatus, an ink pad of finely and closely perforated bibulous paper substantially as herein set forth and for the purpose stated;
2. In stencil and ink carrying frames for stencil printing apparatus, an ink pad of finely and closely perforated bibulous paper and a removable backing on which such ink pad is fixed substantially as herein set forth.
3. In stencil and ink carrying frames for stencil printing apparatus, an ink pad of finely and closely perforated bibulous aper and a removable backing on which suc mk pad is xed, a frame to carry the ink pad, end cli s on said frame, studs near each side edge o the frame and inclined ends to the ink pad backing-.substantially as herein set forth.
4. In stencil and ink carrying frames for stencil rinting, a frame, having on its front means or holding an ink pad and stencil and on its back, clips along each side edge and ribs near each end to hold an indicating card substantially as herein set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID GESTETNER.
