AUTOMATIC DRAFT-REGULATOR.

To ail whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. MCKERNAN, a citlzen of the United States of America,
residing at Wissa'hicko'n, Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphiaand State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented new'and useful Improvements in Automatic Draft-Regulators, of'which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to automatic draft regulators, the objectof the invention being to provide time trip mechanism for opening up the draft of a furnace or other heater at a predetermined time, the apparatus hereinafter described being adapted to'be set so as to operate at any given time.
With the above general object in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated and cla'med.

In carrying out the present invention,- an alarm clock 1 is mounted on a suitable su portindicated at 2 which-may convenient y consist ofa closet door so that the back of the clock may be set substantially flush with the outer side of the door so that by opening the door the face of the clock may be seen and tho alarm mechanism of the clock set according to the time it is desired to have the draft of the furnace opened.
The furnace door indicated at 3 has 'attached thereto one end of a fiexibledraft passed, said connection being provided with a terminal hook 8 which may be engaged with. any lpart'of the connectionso as to hold the" weig t 6 at, any necessary -elevation above the floor. in or shoulder 10 being conveniently formed by providing a notch 13 in the peripheral edge of the segment 11 into which notch the catch link 9 is placed in the manner indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 The chain or connection 4 engages and passes over a pin 14 projecting from the sup ort 2 and when the catch link 9 is placer in engagement with the segment 11 an intermediate ortion of the chain adjacent to said catch ink is deflected to one side as shown in Fig. 2 and when the segment is held by means hereinafter described a greater portion of the tension of the weight 6 on said connection 4 is temporarily removed.
The segment 1s provided at a suitable point inFig. 2, there is arranged a catch link 9 Q with a pin 15 adapted to be engaged by a hook 16 which is pivotally connected to the support '2 as indicated at 17. It is also preferred to place an-anti-friction roller or sleeve around the pin 15 so as to more readily free the hook at the proper time and prevent said hook from binding on the pin 15. The hook 16 which constitutes the tripping member of the apparatusis operated by means of a trip cord 18 which extends from the hook to the alarm wind arbor 19 and is wrapped around the same.

The 0 eration of the mechanism is as follows. hen the alarm wind arbor is released at a predetermined time designated on the face of the clock, the arbor 19 winds upon the trip cord 18 and draws the hook 16 out of engagement with the pin 15' thus allowing the weight 6 to pull downward onthe connection 4 andturn the weight supporting segment 11. When said segment has turned a suflicientdistance, the catch link 9 is released from the segment and then the weight 6 acts with full force on the connection 4 which being attached to the draft door 3 swings said door open and supplies the furnace with the required draft to promote combustion.
