This is accomplished by the action of the downwardly moving lever F", on the rock shaft J shifting said rock shaft so that through its connection J and link J, it moves the adjustable weight J", out toward the outer end of the lever L thus increasing the load on the governor L, and insurin that under the same speed the stop lever M will be retracted so as to defer its contact with the hook catch N that is, so that the valves P and P, will remain )en. longer and admit a greater volume of t e expansive gases to the engine cylinder. In effect, this increases the speed of the engine and makes it desirable to provide an increased quantity of water for cooling the cylinder, and the same niotionol the rock slialt J which affects the cut off of the gas engine retracts the val ve J, increasing the how of water through the water jacket. Of course where the suoply of water to the water jacket is directly controlled by the speed of piston movement this governing device would be unnecessary.
