Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented July 14, 1908,
Application filed December 18, lfififi. Serial No. 348,402.
Canton, in the county of Stark and State of 5 Ohio, have invented: certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete. Structures; and I do hereby declare th hefoll'owing is a full,
"ion'of the same, reference being hadto thanccofiipanying. drawing, makinga part of' thi's" specification, and
. which Figu I concrete structure. as ap lied-for floor or slde to the numerals of reference marked thereon,
concrete broken away. 7 Fig*; 2'. is' a top view .showing'pa'rt oi the concreteremov'ed. Fig. 3 is a view on line 2 -2, Fig. 2.
The present invention has relation to concrete structure especially designed fori'floors and side walks and it consists indifferent parts'and combination of partshereinatter described and particularly pointed out in the.
, side by side so as to produce a continubus surface of a size to correspond with the size of the floor or side walk or structure. For the purpose of giving the desired amount of rigidity to the plates or sheets said sheets or plates are provided withthe angled flanges 3., fromwhichflanges extend the flanges 4. i
At'the side edges .of the bars are located the flanges Band 6, which flanges are lapped together as best illustrated in Fig. 3, and for the purpose of assisting in temporarily hold ing the different plates in proper relative poisitlon the flan es 5 are provided with the short 'u turned flanges 7, .which short uptu'rned anges embrace the angled flanges 3. Inf'some instances and especially in vault and sidewalk c'ohstructions it is desirable to employ blocks of'glass or'other transparent material such as S, which blocks of glass or other 1 transparent material are seated in the openm 9'01 5);" hor arious plates 2 n a e, purpose! of giving the structure re 1 is a perspective-view showing a walk or other .structuresbwing at part of the.
additional rigidity the cross-bars 10 are employed, which cross-bars may be located as illustrated in the drawings, that is .to' say two series of bars spaced from each other and the bars pf each series crossed so as to produce increased rigidity in different directions, thereby preventing any vibrations as between the supporting beams. In concrete structures'of the class to which this invention pertains it is of importance to forni'a structure in which there is little or no vibrationstowing to the fact that vibrations have a tendency'fifirst to unseat the cement contact, second to crystallize the metal, but by my improved construction this objection and injury to the structure by the vibra-' tions is entirely overcome. In structures wherethe glass 'ortransparent blocks 8 are employed. the cross-bars 10 are located be tween therows of the blocks'8 by which arrangement the blocks are bounded upon all sides by the cross-bars, thereby better binding the cement in all directions with reference to glass or trans arent blocks 8. In the drawing I have illustrated-the. cross-bars placed in position simply ,by having one of the parallel series of bars located under the other'parallel series of bars, but I do not desire to be confined to this exact construe-c tion and arrangement, owing to the fact that the same object andapurpose can be accomplished by'fthe-use of coarse netting and in structures where it is not desired: to use transparent blocks, the netting may be of any i desired construction reference being had to the pur ose above pointed out.
- It. w1l be understood that the cement is to be placed in position while in a plastic condition after the various plates and cross-bars and netting have been properly assembled and in structures where the transparent blocks are to be employed, said blocks areto be properly connected prior to placing the cement in osition. By forming the metal plate 29s a ove described the under faces of said plates will present a pleasing appearance and in floor constructions especially the structure will serve the double purpose ofv ceiling and floor. 1
-Having I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a concrete structure of the class described, a series of plates having horizontal portions, said fully described my invention what horizontal portions provided at angles to 0 enings in the horizontal ortions of the p ates, substantially as and or the purpose specified. v
In testimony that 101mm the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two Witnesses.
