Description

tinitexl BENJAMIN GLASSCOCK, OF HILLSBOROUGI-I, OHIO.
Leners Patent No. 89,305, daad April 27, 1869.
IMPROVED FLY-TRAP.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the um..
To all whom 'it ma/y conce/rn:
Be itknown thatI, BENJAMIN GLAsscocK, of Hillsborough, in the county of Highland, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fly-Traps; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a filyt-rap; andin order to enable others skilled in the art to make andV 'use the same, Iwill now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, and which represent a longitndinal vertical section of my invention.
My y-trap consists of a box, of rectangular shape, divided into two apartments.
A represents this box, divided into the trap or bait- I box B, and the prison O.
The box, or rather the top thereof, is divided into three parts.
D, a narrow board, fastened across the centre of the top.
E,`the lid, covering the front portion of the box.
The lid E is hinged to the board D, opening thus from the front end of the box, and set by a wire, a, which is hooked on to hook b, at the rear edge -of the board D, the wire a being attached at or near the front end of the lid E.
When the wire a is released, or sprung from the hook b, the lid is instantly forced down by a wire spring, c.
This spring may be of any construction desired, so as to operate for the purpose mentioned; and I prefer making it.removable, so that it may be placed inside the box during shipment, and thus not be injured in any manner.
The rear portion of the top of the box A, as well as the upper half of the rear end, and lower half of the front end of the box, is covered with wire cloth d, so as to allow the prison C to be perfectly light.
Underneath the lid E is the trap-apartment or baitbox B, which is half' the depth of the box A, and the same size as the lid, the lid forming its covering when down.
The prison O extends under this box B, to the front end, and receives light through the wire screen.
The -box or trap B is connected with the prison O, and opens into it by a swinging gate or door e, under the board D.
The moment the trap is sprung, this doore is forced open by two buttons or wires f f, fastened to the under side of the lid E, and near its hinges.
` The moment the lid falls, this door is thrown open,
allowing the dies at once to pass out of the dark box into th'e prison, which is light. As the lid is raised, this trap-door shuts, thus closing the prison at once.
Below the rear end of the bait-box B is a swinging door, h, which can be raised or lowered by a knob or wire on the outside of the box A.
By raising this door, and darkening the main partv of the prison, the dies will immediately go under the bait-box, to the front end, where, by closing the door h, they can be made to remain until they perish.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p 1. The arrangement of the lid E, wire a, hook b, spring c, and buttons ff, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The arrangement ofthe box A, divided into baitbox B, and prison 0,'one portion of the latter extending under the former, and having doors e and h, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 8th day of February, 1869.
