Description
J. S. VAN*BUREN.
- Heating Stove.
Patented April 20.1869.
I1VIPROVEMZENT IN COAL-SIOVES.
The Schedule refen-ed to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it ma/y concern Be it known that I, J. S.VAN BUREN, of Norwich, in the county of New London, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and improved Heater; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved heater.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section of the same, taken through the line a: x, fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspohding parts.
My ihvention has for its object to furnish an improved heater, which shall be so constructed as to utilize a much larger proportion of the heat, developed by the combustion of the fuel, than is possible with the stoves and heaters constructed in the ordinary manner; and
' It consists iu the construction and combination of the various parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the base of the heater, in which is formed a close chamber, a, extending around the sides, and rear end of the ash-pit a, as shown in fig. 2.
Bis the body of the heater, which should be furnished with a grate and fire-pot, in the ordinary manner. r
Upon the top of the body B of the heater, is formed a. dome, b, into which the heated products of combustion rise, and from the top of which they pass through an opening, into the dome C, placed directly above the dome b.
The dome 0 maybe placed directly upon the top of the dome b, or they may be connected to each other' by a short pipe, as shown in fig. l.
The latter construction I' prefer, as giving a finer appearance to the heater.
The upper doma 0 is connected with the chambe a of the base A, by four pipes, two upon each side, the front ones, D, being, made larger than the rear ones, E, so as to equalize the draught, and also the distribution of heat.
From the chamber a the products of combustion pass into the egress-pipe or flue F, through which they pass to the chimney.
The pipe or fine F is also connected directly with" the upper part of the body B of the heater, to supply a direct draught, when required,by a short pipe, Gr, which should be provided with a damper.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Oonstructing the heater with two domes, placed, the one directly above the other, substantially as here in shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. Forming the rear pipes.E smaller than the front pipes D, substantially as hereinshown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. An improved heater, formed by the combination of the close chamber a of the base A, body'B, .domes b and C, larger pipes D, smaller pipes E, and egress fine F, with each other, said parts being construoted and arranged substantially as herein shown and descn'bed, and for the purpose set forth.
Witnesses: J. S. VAN BUREN.
