www WM O. L. GARDNER, OF YORK, N.Y.
Letters PatenteNo. 89,139, dated April 20, 1S69.
IMPROVED ADJ-'U STABLE CORNICE FR WINDOW-CURTAINS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O. L. GARDNER, ofNew York, in the county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in findow-Gornice; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference ,being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of `this speeitieaton.
This invention relates to a new and-uset`1 improve-A4 ment in cornices for supporting window-curtains in dwellings and other buildings, the improvement,hav-4 ing reference to a mirror-frame, for which Letters Patent were granted me, dated September 10, 1867, the cornice being intended as a continuation ofthe moulding of the said frame, in completing the inishing of the room, but which cornice maybe used separately therefrom.
In the accompanying plate of drawings- Fignre l represents the cornice connected with a .mirror-frame, the window being shown in red color;
`Ynieeniay be fitted thereto, so that the arch of the frame mayfo'na central and leading feature in the apartment-emnice.
This cornice is made adjustable by means of slots in the back ofthe central projections B, as seen in tig. 3. C C are screws, which are attached to the parts D D, each side of the centre, and which work in the slots, as the parts are drawn from or pushed toward the muri-re.-
lhefront projection, B, and the back,.E, vare connected together by the cross-piece F, so that the central part ofthe cornice remains stationary.
The cornice may be made adjustable at the end projection G Gr, by the saine or similar arrangement., if desired, but lf have found the present method most convenient.
The cornice may befmade adjustable at both ends, and also at 'the centre, so that it may be extended a foot or more, and still preserve its symmetry and true architectural proportions.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Making the cornices of windows adjustable, substantially as and for the purposes herein shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 9th day of February, 1869.
O. L. GARDNER.
