Be it known that I, 'l lnwiinn F. CRANE, citizen of the United St ates, and resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new v and useful Improvements in Reinforcing Bars for Cementitious Bodies, of which the following is u specification. y
In the use of cementitious substances, such as concrete, for building and other-purposes, it is customary to reinforce and import a (lesircd tensile strength to the semeby embed; ding therein suit-able metallic members,
such combine-lion of metallic reinforcing mem bers with the cementitious body resulting in the formation of a composite structure capeble of resisting both compressive and tensile strains to a. very great degree; When no. tallie members are embedded in e cementitious body, it is (le sirable that a, complete adhesion and union of .the two elements should be obtained to prevent movement of one relatively to the other, and this is usually accomplished by providing the metallic reinforcing members with e series or transversely-urronged shoulders for interlocking engagement with the comentitious body. These interlocking shoulders are usually formed by e distortion oi some character of the bar constituting the reinlorcmg memberfund such distortion in someinstnnces is ol such character as to re sult in u lessening of the the bar. It is obviously desirable, however,

An important feature of tho sinuous form of the ribs -12 is the fact that opposing shonl ders are provided, such as 5--5 or 6---G, which operate, not only to lool the bar against longitudinal movement in the cen1- ont-itious body in a straight line, but also to look the bar against any turning niov incnt in the cementitious body in a spiral or other direction.
