EXTENSION-DASHBOARD FOR VEHICLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1908.
,Application filed December 30, 1907. Serial No. 408,634.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAooB E. ALBRIGHT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at I/Vest Newton, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-D ashboards for Vehicles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accom anying drawing.
T iis invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dash board shields for vehicles, and the primary object of the invention is, to provide a novel adjustable shield for preventing an animal attached to a vehicle from throwing pebbles, dirt and similar matter over the dash board and upon persons seated in the vehicle.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive dash-board shield that can be easily and quickly manipulated, the shield being constructed whereby it can be adjusted to any desired height.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and then specifically pointed out inthe appended claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of the vehicle equipped with a shield, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the shield, in an elevated osition, Fig. 3 is a plan of the same, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view of a portion of the dash board and shield.
In the drawings, 1 designates a portion of the vehicle having a dash-board 2, said dashboard being provided with a pocket 3 for a movable shield 4, the shield when in'a lowered position being completely housed within the pocket.
The ends of the shield 4 are guided in grooves 5 provided therefor in the dashboard, and in order to retain the shield in an elevated position, I use a resilient member or spring 6, this member being carried by the rear side of the dash-board, whereby it can be easily manipulated by persons seated in the vehicle 1.
The shield 4 is provided with a plurality of grooves 7, these grooves being spaced apart and formed one above the other, whereby the member or spring 6 can recede into either of said grooves, to maintain the shield at a desired elevation.
The resilient member or spring 6 is manipulated by virtue of a button 8 carried by one end thereof, the opposite end of said member or spring being fixed to the dash-board 2.
A coil spring 9 can be used in conjunction with the spring 6, to insure a positive action of the spring 6 in engaging in one of the grooves of the shield 4.
I preferably make the shield of a material corresponding to the dash-board 2, whereby the shield will present an appearance as if it were an integral part of the dash-board.
Having now described my invention what I claim'as new, is
In combination with a vehicle dash board provided with a pocket, the end walls of which pocket having vertical grooves, of a shield or extension dash board mounted for vertical movement in said pocket and having its ends received in and guided by said grooves in the end walls of the pocket, the
sald shield or extension dash board provided on its inner face with a plurality of grooves arranged in spaced vertical alinement, a spring catch secured to the dash board to engage in one of said grooves in the extension dash board and having a button projecting through the rear wall of the dash board, and a spring normally holding said spring catch seated in one of the grooves of the extension. dash board.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JACOB E. ALBRIGHT.
