OTTO HEISE, OF FISCHER STORE, TEXAS.
SERVING-TRAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1908.
Application filed January 26, 1906. Serial No. 298,038.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, OTTO HErsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fischer Store, in the county of Comal and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Im provement in a ServingTray, of which the 'ollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a novel form of serving tray in which a stand supports a rcvoluble serving tray, which tray forms a plurality of separate and independent dishes so that an entire meal can be served upon the said tray without requiring the use of separate plates, for the various articles served, and the device is especially adapted for the use of boarding houses, restaurants and hotels.
The invention consists of the novel features hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a diametrieal cross section through the complete device, on the line 11 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the supporting stand, the tray being removed, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the supporting stand.
In these drawings A represents a supporting stand provided with legs A, and a vertical circular rim A This stand may be of any suitable diameter and the supporting legs can be one or more inches in height. As more clearly shown in Fig. 3, I prefer to form the supporting legs A by cutting or punching out the body of the stand A, as shown at A and bending down the cut portions. U on the stand A I lace a plurality of r0 lers A preferably a out ninety degrees apart. A circular tray B has in its central portion four depressions forming quadrant shaped dishes B, separated from each other by ridges B In the portion of the tray surrounding and concentric with the dishes B, are a plurality of dishes O, O and C also formed by depressions in the tray B. All of these dishes may be formed in any desired manner as by shaping the tray either in stamping or molding or the dishes may be formed separate from the tray and the tray suitably cut out and the dishes then inserted in and welded or soldered to the edges of the cut out portions, and it will be understood that the tray is to be covered with a white enamel so that in appearance it will resemble a circular plate having a plurality of central and concentric depressions, each (IG'PI'OSSlOIl forming a separate dish, but all integrally connected together.
In practice the dishes 0 will be used for serving what are usually known as side dishes, relishes, ctc., while the dishes B, can be used for meats, and articles served in larger quantities than usually given in the side dishes.
The dish O is oval in outline instead of circular as in the case of the dishes O and is adapted for use as the dish to be eaten from, while the dish O is p olygona] in outline being arranged upon the left hand side of the dish. C, can be used for holding knives, forks and spoons or if desired can be used as a bread plate.
The tray B is provided with a flange D, which rests over the rim A of the stand A and bears lightly thereon, but does not sustain the weight of the tray. As shown in Fig. 1, the dishes O and C have their bot toms in a much lower plane than that of the body portion of the tray B and a circular track E, is carried by the bottoms of these dishes. This track rests upon the rollers A and supports the weight of the tray, the dishes and their contents.
It will be obvious that the entire tray can. be readily rotated upon the stand A, the track E traveling upon the rollers A, and. thus any dishes upon the tray can be brought opposite and adjacent to the user.
It will be understood. that this device is not primarily designed'to act as a revolving table by means of which the various dishes are brought successively before parties sitting at the table, but the tray is designed to stand upon a table before the party being served and where a number of persons are be ing served at the same time, as in a hotel or restaurant a stand. and tray would be provided for each person.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A device of the kind described comprising a supporting stand, a tray having a plurality of depressions arranged circularly, a continuous track carried by and connecting the bottom portions of said depressions, and rollers upon the stand adapted to engage the track.
OTTO HEISE.
