To all 'whom it may concerns The o'bj ect of the invention is to provide a construction of rail bond wherein provisionis made of means for efficiently securing the bond to the surface of a-rail or other part to be bonded.
A further obj ect of the invention is toprovide the bond terminal with means for. retainin solder employed for securing such terminal to the rail surface.
Other objects of the invention'will appear more fully hereinafter.

In the application of rail bonds to rails pr other parts to be bonded, it is a common practice to apply the terminals of the bond to the surface of the rail or other part to be bonded, 'andto secure such terminal to the surface of the rail by solder. In the use of solder for this purpose, it is desirable to provide a pocket 'or recess, in which the solder is received, to the end that the solder may not be wasted, and may be efficiently em loyed to -secure the bond to the surface of t e rail or other part to bebonded.
It is among the special purposes of our present invention to provide a construction of bond terminal wherein a pocket is provided for accomplishing the result Stated. A pocket or recess may be formed in many specifically different ways. For instance, and as shown in Fi s. 2, 3 and 7, we propose to form a raised ri or rojection F. on the surface of the bond terminal G which is to be ap lied to the surface offthe rail or other part to he bonded, said raised rib or projection extending along or adjacent to the lower edge and the ends of the terminal portion G of the bond, and hence forming a pocket or recess between the surface of the bond terminal and the surface of the rail, .to' receive the solder therein, the upper edge of such pocket or recess being left open byreason of the fact that the raised rib F which extends from the surface of the 'bond terminal along the lower -edge, and at the ends of the terminal portion of the stud, bears. againstthe surface of the rail or other part to be bonded, thereby off setting the surface of the bond terminal from the rail surface.
In Figs. 4, 5 and 6 We have shown a modified arrangement embraced within the spirit, and S00 e of our invention, wherein the bondtermina G is provided with a depressionH" therein, thereby forming a se at or recess to serve as a receptacle-to receive the solder,
this depression in the surface of the bond terminal extending from the upper edge of the terminal surface but not entirely to the lower edge thereof, nor to the extreme ends. The surface of the bond terminal which bounds .the depressed seat H, when the bond termi nal is applied to the rail or other part to be bonded, bearing a ainst the surface of therail, enables the so der to be introduced into the pocket or recess H, which is openv at its upper edge, thereby retaining the solder therein and enabling the same to efiiciently accomplish the ob ects and purposes for which I said solder is intended.
It is obvious that other modifications and variationswould readily suggest themselves to persons skilled in the artand still fall With inthe spirit and scope of ourinvention. We-
do not desire, therefore, to be limited or restricted to the exact details shown and described.
Having now set forth the object'and nae ture of our invention, and various eonstructrons embodying the principles thereof, what we claim as new and useful and of our own invention, and Patent, is:
1. A rail bond having-a terminal, said terminal adjacent the ends thereof and along the desire to secure by Letters lower edge to form -a recessor seat which,
provided with a raised rib extending when the terminal is applied to the surface,
of a rail or other part to be bonded, is closed along the lower edge thereof and open along the upper edge thereof to receive solder. 2. Arail bond having a terminal, said terminal provided with a cavity in the inner vertical face thereof, the upper side of said cavity being open'forthe admission of solder,
and the edges of said cavity adjacent the rail bein formed in the same plane so as to be para lel with and rest fiat against the side of the rail, whereby there is formed between the side of the rail and .the terminal a cavity for the reception of a body of solder which may 'be poured into the cavity through the said opening at the top.
