DEVICE FOR REMOVING BOTTLE-CAPS.

Be it known that I, Ounris L. Cnnvnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Removing Bottle-Caps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is the production of an improved device for removing from the mouths of milk and cream bottles and other similar containers, the paper cap ordinarily used for closing the bottle.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of my invention, illustrating the same in practical use. Fig. 2 is a rear side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the device.
The body of the tool or device, in this instance, consists of a disk 1 which may be formed of two plates 2 and 3. The plate 2, in the form herein shown, is bent to provide an annular ..groove 4 near its periphery. The plate 3 is herein shown as a flat disk contacting the central, sunken portion of the plate 2 and having its edges seamed over the periphery of the plate 2 for securing the two sections of the body portion 1 together. Said body portion provides an ample bearing surface for the fingers, and is of suchform as to be conveniently and firmly held by the operator.
At one point upon the periphery of the body portion 1 is a curved impaling pin or prong 5 adapted to be inserted in the paper bottle-cap a for prying up the latter, and at another point, preferably diametrically opposite to the pin 5, is provided means for suspending the tool, said means, in this instance, consisting of a ring 6. The curved pin 5 and the ring 6 are preferably formed from an integral piece of wire, the portion 7 of which is bent to take a substantially semicircular form, and lies within the groove or channel 1 between the plates 2 and 3. The wire 7 forms a very simple and efficient means for connecting the pin 5 and the ring 6 with the body portion 1. Being bent, and lying between the plates 2. and 3, as shown, the wire 7 serves to prevent rotation of the pin and suspending ring with reference to the body portion. Openings 8 are formed either wholly in one or partly in both of said plates through which the pin 5 and the stem of the suspending ring 6 extend.
In use, the body portion 1 is held between the fingers, as shown in Fig. 1, and the pin 5 pushed through the paper cap a at the point indicated in said figure, or at any other suitable point. The operator then pries up one side of the cap a so as to admit air beneath it, when said cap may be readily lifted from the bottle mouth. After use the tool may be suspended by means of the ring 6.
It is evident that various changes may be made in the embodiment herein shown without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, therefore no undue limitation should be understood from the foregoing detailed description.
I claim as my invention:
1. A tool for removing bottle caps conprising a body portion adapted to be grasped between the fingers of the hand, and an impaling pin extending out from said body portion and a suspending ring formed integra with a piece of wire lying within the body portion and held from turning with relation thereto.
2. A tool for removing bottle caps having a body portion adapted to be grasped be tween the fingers of the hand and comprising two substantially circular plates; a substantially semi-circular wire lying between said plates; animpaling pin at one end of said Wire, extending out from said body portion, and a suspending ring at the other end.
3. A tool for removing'bottle caps having a body portion adapted to be grasped between the fingers of the hand and comprising a plate having an annular groove therein; a disk fitting over said plate and closing said groove; a substantially semi-circular wire lying within said groove; a curved impaling pin formed integral with one end of said wire and extending out from said body portion; and a suspending ring formed integral with the other end of said wire.
