To all whom it may concern."
' Be it known that l, BLAIR W. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at ll ollidaysburg, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and nseful Improvement in an Ice-Cream Mold,
of which the followin isa specification.
This invention re ates to an ice cream mold and the object of the invention is a device of this kind from which the bricks o1 cream-may be easily removed by taking the mold apart and a further object of the inven tion is a device of this "kind, which can be very readily cleaned.
In the mold. ordinarily used for freezing cream in bricks difiiculty is at times had in removing the cream Without spoiling the appearance of the molded'briolr, and it is customary to effect the removal of the brick by covering the vmold and applying 'a cloth dip ed in hot water to the bottom of the mo (1 in order to loosen the brick and cause it to drop from the mold. This is objectionable as it necessarily ell'ects the removal of the brick by melting one surlaci,..
My invention consists of a mold formed of top and bottom'portions and of side and and portions, the sides and ends of the mold be ing hinged and entirely separate from both the top and bottom, so that by removing the top and bottom portions the sides and ends can be swung outwardly leavingthe brick of cream restin upon a plate and entirely free from the mold. In the drawings forming part of this specification :Figure 1 is a perspective View of the mold closed. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the mold in closed position. Fig. 3. is a plan view of the sides and ends opened out and detached from the top and bottom portions.
In constructing the mold I employ twoshalloW ans A Which form respectively the top and ottom of the mold and it is i1nmaterial which particular pan. is osed for the top or bottom. I also employ sides 3, which are entirely'separate from the pans i and this portion. B is formed of separate plates hinged together, the plates C formingthe sides proper and the plates D and l) forming thev ends of the mold. These plates stre sued by bending over their upper and lower edges as shown E thus forming areinforeing bead. The end I has its free end portionslightly cut away as shown at D and carries an outwardly projecting pin U While no particular form of hinge is neces sary the preferred form is to provide the ends of the side plat s (1 with sleeves G which fit between eves ll formed on the end plates D and the usual pintlo pins H are passed through these sleeves.
It will be observed from Fig. 3 that the end plate l) is hinged to one end of a side plate C and to the o} posite end of the other side plate is hinged a tongue 5 provided Witl'i an opening J and having its free end curved outwardly as shown at 5 'When the side portion B which consists of the plates and tongue just described is folded by bringing each of said plates into a position at rigl'it angles to its adjacent plates, a rectangle is formed and the tongue d will overlap the end plate il the opening .1 engaging the pir ii. The out out portion ll recciv, the hinge connecting the tongue J to the side plate (3 thereby bringing the ends of the bead E formed upon said end plate ilush with the ends oi the bead of the plate C to which the tongue el is hinged. The rectangular frame thus tormed b j the folding the sides l5, ndiich term it will be understood also eludes the end plates B and B" as Well as the ii-ates C proper set within one ol the pans A. and after the c till has been placed therein is covered by the other nan.
'lo ren'io'v'e the brick formed in this mold it only necessary to remove the oover, in-- vei't the mold upon a plate, remove the bottom pan and open out the sides l3.
Having thus fully described my invention, Wh letters Patent,
An ire cream mold comprising: removable top and bottom portions, a side portion formed of side and end plates hinged together, a tongue carried by one of the side plates and. lappii'sg over upon an end. plate and a in arriod by said end. plate adapted to engage said tongue.
