Description

PATENTED JUNE 2, 1908.
H. GARLSSON. ROLLER SKATE.
APPLICATION TILED NOV. 4, 1907.
and in which,
{UNITED i ATENT OFFICE.
HILMER GARLSSON, OF HARVARD, ILLINOIS. I
ROLLER-SKATE.
Specification of Iietters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1908.
Application filed. November 4, 1907. Serial No. 400,693.
stood by reference to the accompanying.
drawings forming a part of this specification Figure 1 is a side elevation of a roller skate embodying my invention in its preferred I form, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof.
The device comprises a metal strip adapted to fit the outside of the leg from a point near the knee to the foot and turns in at the bottom to form a foot rest, a second metal strip ad-a ted to fit the leg from a point in front of the lln side above the instep and converging with the first,.mentioned strip to which it is riveted, a shaft secured to the front strip'and extending laterally therefrom, a wheel arranged at the end of said shaft and a plurality of straps for attaching the device to the skater. 4
Referring to the drawin s, 1 indicates a metal strip of sufficient lengt to extend from a point near the knee to the bottom of the foot and to be turned thereunder, to form a foot-rest. The strip, 1 is adapted to be arran ed upon the outer side of the leg and a si ar strip, 2 is provided 'to be arranged in front. The strip, 2 extends from a point sli htly below the knee to a point near the an e and is then bent outwardly passing around the side of the foot and then prefer ably bent inwardly as. at 8 where it is riveted to the inturned portion, 4 of the strip, 1. If
desired, the strip, 2' need not pass under the cc to the ankle and then turned to the outwardly curved portion, 5.
6 indicates a bracket fixed to the strip, 2, above the ankle and 7 a short shaft extending laterally therefrom. Upon the outer end of the shaft, 7, mounted the wheel, 8, which is preferably provided with a cushion or pneumatic tire, 9.
10, 11 and 12 are straps for securing the device to the skater. ed to the foot rest formed by the portions, 3
and 4 of the strips, 1 and 2 and passes over the I inste and the stra s, 11 and 12 are riveted or 0t erwise secure to the vertical portions, of the strips, 1 and 2.
Having described -my invention what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A one wheeled-roller skate comprising a pair of vertically disposed metal strips adapted to fit the front and side of the leg respectively and having their lower ends bent inwardly to form a foot rest, a shaft fixed to one of said strips and extending laterally therefrom, a wheel mountedjat-thefend of said shaft, and means for scurin said-:skate to the leg, substantially as'descri ed.
2. A one wheeled roller skate comprisin 'a metal strip adapted to fit the outside of the leg from a point near the knee to the sole of foot but may be secured to the strip, 1 at the The strap, '10 is rivets the foot and bent inwardly at the bottom to 'form'a foot rest, a second metal strip ada ted to fit the front of the leg from a oint slig tly below the knee to the ankle and outwardly and around the side of thefoot to thence bent meet the lower 'end of thefirst said strip and i I to which it is riveted, a short shaft extending laterallyfrom said front strip, awheel mounted on said shaft, and means for attaching the skate to the leg, substantiall as described.
,1 In testimony whereof I ave; signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
. HILMER CLSSON.
