SAMUEL O. EARLY, OF MARION, NORTH CAROLINA.
NEEDLE-THREADER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 26, 1908.
Application filed November 1, 1905. Serial No. 285,476.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL O. EARLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marion, in the county of McDowell, State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in N eedle- Threaders; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to combination devices.
One object is to provide a combined needle threader, thread cutter and knot pick.
Another object resides in the provision of a combined needle threader, and thread cutter or a needle threader and knot pick or a needle threader, thread cutter and knot pick embodying such characteristics as to include simplicity, inexpensiveness, durability and efficiency in its entirety or as regards any one embodiment of the combination.
Vith these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of the invention. Fig. 2 is a view of the construction shown in Fig. 1 in the inverted position. Fig. 3 is a view at right angles to Fig. 1 showing a part of the instrument.
. Referring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a solid stock 1, having a longitudinal slot 2, formed in one end thereof to receive and guide a needle 3. Secured upon the upper face of the stock, there is a spring arm 7, which projects at its free-end over the slot 2, and which has its free extremity turned to extend between the remainder of the arm and the stock in the direction of the attached end of the arm, to form a hook 8. Adjacent to its attached end, the arm is bent upwardly, as shown at 7 to offset its major portion from the stock, and it will be seen that a needle passed into the slot 2 may have the arm 7 introduced through its eye 9, when a thread 10 may be engaged with the hook 8. Removal of the needle from the arm will thus cause the thread to enter its eye and the threading operation will be completed.
A bifurcated ferrule 4 is carried by the opposite end of the stock from the slot 2, and has pivoted therein a member having a blade 5 at one end, and a knot pick 6 at its opposite end, the member being movable to project either end from the ferrule for use. It is to be understood that the blade 5 is to be used for cutting thread.
What is claimed is:
A needle threader comprising in its entirety, a solid stock having a longitudinally slotted end, and a spring arm attached at its inner end directly to the upper face of the stock rearwardly of the inner end of the slot and projecting directly over the latter parallel therewith, said arm being offset adjacent its attached end to bring its major portion into spaced relation with the upper face of the stock, the outer end of said arm being bent in the direction of said attached end, to form a thread-receiving hook, said arm being adapted to extend through the eye of a needle passed into said slot.
'In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
