BUILDING CONSTRUCTION WITH REFERENCE TO COVERING MATERIAL. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 2, 1908.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION WITH REFERENCE TO COVERING MATERIAL.
T 0 all whom it may concern." 7
Be it known that I, HENRY Enwaun Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 2. 1908. Serial No. 408.963.
KOCK,Of(iI1('i1Hiati. in the county of llamil- 7 ton and the State of Ohio. have invented new and useful Improvements in Building Construction. of which the following is a lull. clear. and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in building ctinstruction with reference shingles, tiles or plates as a covering material making the structure composed of thesel shingle or tile and not into the seam ol' the low er t we thus preventing decav or t'ol'losloll.
more durable and lasting.
The ingention consists in the. novel features ,as hereinafter particularly described. and defined in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompairw ing drawing forming a part of the specilication in which the Figure A shows a front view of such a shingle, plate or tile with the other figures, B, D. E and F, illustrating various designs and combinations utilizing the same principle, however, in construction.
Shingles or tiles are usually constructed with a square end or having their longest longitudinal dimension at or about the median line. In laymg them as a covering for roofs, walls, etc., thev are so placed next and above each other that one covers the seam formed by the abutment of the lower two. 1 In square ended shingles the water or drainage runs down to the square end and by capi the median line so that the water will collect atone point and then run oli'. 'lhis'however conducts the water into the crevice formed l Patented May 26. 1908.
bv the lower two shingles and causes these to l'ut.
ln nrv invention the shingles. plates o| tiles are. so constructed that the greatest longitudinal dinu-nsion is at one or the other lateral edge as shown in Fig. ln la ving shingles. plates or tiles of t he above const ruetion. inthe usual manner. the water or drainage runs along each shingle, plate or tile until it reaches its lowest point. which then conducts it to the middle ol' the underlying ln like manner as shown in Figs. l5 and I" each succeeding shingle or tile repeats the above process iii-drainage conduction thereb v preventing the"collect-ion or accumulation of the drainage under or bet ween the shingles or tiles preventing deca v and thus prolonging the endurance of such covering material.
'In l igs. B. and l) are shown dill'erent patterns of shingles. tiles or plates for covering material to show the artistic ell'eetto be achieved still utilizing the principle illustrated in Fig.1, while in Figs. E and l are illustrated shingles or tiles in position to show how the principle of coiuluction is applied.
Having thus described m v invent iuli, l claim as new and desire to secure b v Letters Patent,:-
A shingle. tile or plate of suitable material having its lower margin cut to an acute an-
