CORPORAZTON OF NEW YORK.
GUTTER.
application mea :my 14, reos. seran in. 326,172.
To all wwm it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. SCHODDE, a citizen of the United Sts/tes, residing at the cit-y of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain neu.v and useful Improvements' in Gutters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification. My invention relates toimprovements in plumbing, and the same has for its object more particularly to provide a. simple, etlicient and reliable sectional gutter, which may be easily' and permanently secured iu the floor of stables, lofts, and other structureel Further said invention has for its object to provide e gutter in which the opposing or adjoining ends muy be secured together in such a manner as to roduce ay ectly writer-tig t joint.`
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends my invention consists in the novel details of construction end in the combination, connection and arrangement of parts perm ensnt end per hereinafter more fullv described, and t-lieri pointed out in the claims. v
In the sccompenvi-*in drawin sforming art of this specification, werein li 'e numera of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 is a top View, part-lybroken away, showing one liorm4 'of a gutter constructed according to and em bodying my seid invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the suine, taken on the line 2 2 of Fig, 1, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3 3 in the direction of the arrow Fig. 1.
ln said drawings 5, 5 denote correspondingl)v shaped trough sections which may be made of ang,v suitable material and substam tially U-sl'xaped in cross-section: Each of said troughwseetions 5, 51s provuled at one end with an offset portieri 8 having upon its inner surface an ini-verdlgextending rim or bead 7, and at its opposite end a ilungc por-.g
tion 8' which projects laterally from said trough lsection 5, and longitudinally bevond Athe end tl'lereoi, 'llius providing un inclosed or covered end portion il of the trough intermediate which und seid oll'sct portion R the I ortion 6 of the adjoiningr trough scction 5 is adapted to extend. and be lirmly sccured therein by calkingtlic sam(- vrizh .a quantity of' oakuxn or analogous material 1f).v
offset and a quantity oi' leed 1].
'llic portion ril/tbe lrougl. .section 5 ul tinI junction of its intermediate portion with the E offset portion @is recessed u on itsinner sur conformed to the inner surface of said trou section to which it is secured and its free end adapted to contact wit-h the inclosed end 9 of the adjoining trough section and thereby providing ar smooth unbroken surface.
Along the 'innersurfaces of the longitudinal edges of the t-roughsections 5 5 are provided shoulders 1616 adapted to su port the conformed cover plates 17 17 u' ich are Icurved transversely and provided with apertures 18 18.
It is to be noted that. en important feature of my improved gutter construction is that it permits of the entire gutter vsystem being adjusted in position in the flooring, Whether the same be wood, cement Aor stone, before the trough sect-ions are secured together, and
15 15. The said connecting' section vWithout' limiting myself to the details 0 Letters Patent is:
'1. A gutter comgrising a plurality`r of trough sections each at one end, and a flange section 'inclosing its otherend adaV ted to receive the offset por- I tion of an a joining trough section, and i packing material. inter osed between-the inlner surface of said o set ortion, and the outer surface of said inc-losedjtrough end, substantially as specified.' 2; A gutter compising a lplurality of trough sections each firing an offset portion at one end, and a Hangs-section about its other end adapted to receive the offset ortion of an adjoining trough section, pas ing E material intcraosed between' th-inner surface of said 'o set port-ion and the out-er surlace of said inclosed trough end, and' perforated plates for said trough sections, substantially as specified.
3. A gutter com rising a plurality of trough sections each raving an offset portion at one end, and a flange section'extending longitudinally along its'othcr end and adapted to receive. the offset portion of an adjoinconst-ruciionwhic'lrmay be varied Within the scope of the invention as defined by the clalms, what I claim and desire to secure by aving an offset portion` ing trough section, and packing material inthat this muybe easily done from the interior -I' terpose'd-between the inner surface of seid oil`set. pori ion und the outer surlnee ol the inelosed trough end, substantially :is speeihed.
, 4. gutter comprising u piurulity of; trough sections euch inving en, ollset portion et one end, und ii tienge section extending longitudinally alongr its other end und adeptu ed to receive the otl'set portion of un ed joining trough section, peelrinT material interposed betweenthe inner sul eee of said offset'Y G. A gutter comprising u. plurality olii trough sections euch having an oil'set. portion ner sui'laee of seid of'l'set portion, und u flange section extending outwardly troni :ind longitudinally-oi Said trough :it its other end adapted to receive the oilset )ortion ot :in adjoining trough section., pueiiing inuteriul interposed ln'etween the inner suii'nee of seid otiset portion and the outer surl'uee ol the inelosed trough end their-gin, und u. eonneeting section secured in the recess in oney of seid trough sections, and its other end 'ahnt-ting against the inelosed end of the other trough "section, substantially es specified.
7. A gutter comprising plurality of trough sections each vieving an otset portion :it one end, u trui'isverse recess upon the in ner surlzue o'l' said oli'set portion, and e ,flange seetion extending outwurdly 'l'roin and longitudinully of said trough :it its other end udn-pied to rereite the oil'set iortion of un udjoining trough seetioi'i, puel1 interposed between the inner surface of seid oll'set portion and the outer suite-ee of the inclosed trough end therein, a eoniieeting seetion secured in the recess in one oi said trough seetioiis, und its other end abutting against the iiielosed end of the other trough section, and perforated plat-es for said trough sections, substantially us specified.
8. A gutter comprising o. )lursility oi trough sections each provided along its lon` gitudinul .edges with shoulders, und lniving an otlset portion et. one end, e transverse re cess upon the inner sui-ieee of seid ofl'set portion, and ullzinge seetionextendin g outwardly troni and loi'igitudiiielly of seid trough :it its other end adapted to i'eeeive the oil'set )ortion oi un adjoining trough section, peering imite-rial interposed between the inner surfaire of seid otl'set. portion and the outer suriuee ol' the inelosed trough end therein, u eonat one end, u transverse ieee-ss upon the vinnei-ting seetioii secured in the reeess in one ol suid trough setzt-ions, und its other end abut.-
ting against the iiielosed end of the other trough ser-tion, sind perforated plates for said trough sections conforming in outline to seid trough sections und the oil'set Vportions thereof, su hstantiully as specified.
Signed et the city ot New York7 in. the County :ind btute oiA New York, this ninth day ol' July, nineteen hundred and six.
