COLLAR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS J. Rmowar, a citizen of the United States, residing at Car- Missouri, have invented a new and useful Collar, of which the following is a specitica tion;

This invention relates to an improvement in fold or overturned collars for mens wear, the object of which is to provide a collar with a strip fastened to the top of the band at the fold to provide an abutment for the necktie and r'e'vent it entering between the top fold of to collar and being there caught and held so firmly as to make it impossible to draw the necktie endwise. The strip also holds the outer fold of the collar away from the band sufficiently far to enable the necktie being placed around the neck and between the folds of the collar after the latter has been buttoned on the shirt. The strip may be madeof fabric-of suitable thickness or of thinner material folded, and in one continuous piece or of several pieces placed end to end. The strip may also be made of metal or other'material suitable for the purpose.

terminate in fact just short of the ends of the outer fold 3 so as not to be visible-when the collar is in use. By means of this strip a clear space is let t between the neck band and the outer fold into whicha necktie may be easily placed after the collar has .been buttoned to the shirt. The bottom of the strip forms an abutment which prevents the necktie from riding up into the fold and becoming lod ed there by the binding action of the nec hand and the outer told. This portion of the space is entirely filled by the strip, below which there is plenty of room for the necktie to move endwise as its ends are drawn by the wearer to properly position the tiebel'ore fastening it.

An'optional way of making the strip is shown in Fig. 4, where it will be seen that instead of a single piece, the strip is divided into sections 6, their ends being placed more or less closely together. With this form of the invention, certain sections may be made thicker than others, and placed at ,the back of the collar or in other parts where the tendwise finished, thus enabling thestrip being placed onthe market and sold independently of the collar to be afterwards sewed in place in collars not provided with the strips.

vllaving thus described the invention what is claimed is A collar having a neckband and an outer turnover fold, a strip consisting of sections of (lill'erent thicknesses sewed to the top of the neckband between said neckband and the turnover fold.
