Description
PATENTED MAY 1.2, 1908.
H W DEIDRIOKH DIAPHRAGM FOE PRINTING AND DECORATING IRREGULAR SURFASES.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 25.1907.

TodZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Harms Dnrnaic'n, a citizen of the United States of America,
siding-at East- Liverpool, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invent.- ed certain new and useful Improvements in Dia h'ragms for Printing and Decorating Irregu ar Surfaces, of'which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to t 1e accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in diaphragms for'priiiting and dec'oratin ir-- regular surfaces, as ottery ware, tile, srilierical bodies, or any at, elliptical, cylindrical,
conical, convex or concave surfaces, and the invention relates morearticularly to -the novel, efiicient and quic application-of air under pressure to that part of the dia hragrn where the pressure is most needed, or-properfect im ression of the type or configuration carrie by the diaphragm.
The invention has for its primary object to provide a stationary head and novel, means 0 fastening the diaphragm upon the same. other object of this invention is to pro- 'vide a diaphragm head with a novel air inlet, whereby the diaphragm of the head can be ex anded to enter depressions of consider;
ab e depth in vessels of pottery were or the like, thus insuring a osltive en agement of the diaphragm with a 1 parts of the surface of i the ware being decorated.
I am aware of diaphragm heads havingbeen used wherein air is admitted at the periphery of the heads, but such heads have generallyproven defective insomuch as it is impos- 'sible to force the diaphragminto de ressions in the ottery ware of considerable epth, or
to reac the bottom of a concave surface with satisfactory results. In constructing a diaphragm head in accordance with my invention, I arrange the air inlet whereby the air will impinge the central portion of the diaphragm, and force the same outwardly to insure a positive contact of the diaphragm with all portions of the de ressions m a piece of pottery ware or the lie when the same is placed on the head, or. against which the head is laced.
he detail ,construotion entering into my invention .Wi-ll be hereinafter more fully describedfand then specifically pointed out in the app'e ded claims, and referring to the drawing arming part of this application, like I numerals of reference designate correspond s eaflneabn o! In admitting air be-,1
My invention simply resides in thenovel. construction of the ead'or disk'l, and the manner. of admitting air centrally of the head or disk.
, .It is obvious that the device is extremely simple in construction and can-be manufactured at a comparatively small expense.
What I claim and desire to secure by Leti ters Patent, is':-
1; In adevice of the class described, the combination with an air supply i e, ofa disk having eripheral flanges, said i ing a'centrali o enin formed therein, anjinteriorly thre'aed s eeve 'mounted in said mounted centra to receive the end of saidairrsupply pipe, a'

2. In a diaphragm head,'the combination with an ain'supplypipe, of'a disk, .a sleeve y of said disk and adapted spider partition formed in the end 'of said s eeve,- a diaphragm. detachably' mounted sem s upon said disk and having type, and a band for holding said diaphragm upo'n said .3. In a device of the class described, the
combination with. an air suppl pi e, of a 7 diskhaving a central opening t eretough,
an interiorly threaded sleeve mounted in said 0 en-in'g and adapted to engage-the end of sai pipe, aresilient diaphragm niounte'd upon said disk and carrying the desi n to Be printed, and means for-securing't e dia-I 1 1 ipe, 'of a y oi and meansor holding said diaphragm'upon said disk. 3
In testimony whereof I afiix my. signature m the presence of two witnesses.
