Meester-M- HENRY MATTHES'F CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
Y 11mm Patent No. 88,726, daad April 6,1869.
IMPRO'V'ED PIE-CUTTER AND CRIMPER.
Tho Schedule referred to :In these Letters Patent and makingpart of the same.
To all whom it may conce/rn Be it known that I, HENRY MATTHES, of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Pie-Cutter and Orimper, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Y Figure 1 is a view ofthe said article.
Figure 2 is a section, showing the crimper and cutter.
Figure 3 is a View of the prongs, with a stamp at- .tached My invention is au improvement upon the pastrycutter of O. A. Shaw,.patented November 6,1860, and consists in making the blade of aat pieceV of steel, instead'of wire, connecting the crimping-roller to the blade, and adding a projecting piece to the blade, to beused for puncturing ythe pastry, and also to hold a stamp, as more particularly described hereafter, which improved construction, as well as the additions, make a much more durable and useful article than that patented. Y Y
A blade of steel, A, is fitted, in a common manner, in a handle, B.
Upon the blade is formed the cutting-edge O, and nearthe cutting-edge is pivoted a crimping-roller, D.
At the extreme end of the blade are two prongs, a a'.
E is a stamp, or letter, formed with a sleeve, s, to t over 'the prongs a a'.
1- When the paste is placed upon a pie, it laps over the edge of the dish; and to remove the superfluous parts and ornament the edges of the pie at the same time,`I lay the crimping-roller D uponthe paste, with the cutting-edge O outside of and bearing against the dish.
By moving the tool around the pie, it is trimmed and crimped by the same operation, while with the instruments in common use, it would be rst trimmed, and
I then crimped with a separate tool.
The prongs a a are used in place of a fork, to make vent-holes in thepaste, thus adding to the utility of the instrument; and they also serve to hold the stamp E. Y The stamp E is to mark the pie with a letter, or some distinctive mark, (as, for instance, A, for applepie,'&c.,) as fancy or convenience may dictate.
Having thus described my invention, What- I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
` Asl a new article of manufacture, the toolV herein described, consisting of a cutting-blade, crimping-roller,
,and prongs brpuncturing, when constructed-substantially as described, and for the purp'ose specified..v
I H. MATTHES.
