UNITED S BENJAMIN KOCHS, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
BOTTLE-PACKING.
'Be it known that I, BENJAMIN' KocHs, a c ltizen 0f the United States of America, residing in the city of St Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, specification.
My inventionrelates to a packing for the protection of bottles when placed in shipping cases for trans ortation and it has for its obJect to furnis a simple eiiicient and inexpensive packing of this description.
Figure I is a perspective view of my packing w1th a bottle incased thereby. Fig. II 1s a perspective view of one section of the packing. Fig. III .is a vertical section taken through the lower portion of the packing applied to a bottle. Fig. IV is a cross section taken through the packing.
In the accompanying drawings: A designates the sections of my packing which are constructed of sheet material and preferably of thin wood or veneer sheets. Each section A 1s a counterpart of the other section which 1s adapted to make their width for the'pur-. pose of completing the packing in order that it will surround the walls ofthe bottle for the protection thereof and also extend beneath the bottom of the bottle for the protection of such bottom. Each section comprises a pair of side wall members l that occupy positions at angles to each other and also a bottom member 2- that is carried, by one of the side wall members ard extends at an an le to said member from its lower end but is ee of connection to the -other side wall member. The bottom member is roduced by ori inally making the section with what is to e one of its side wall members longer than thel other and adjoining member in order that the bottom member may be bent into a position atan angle to the sidewall member b which it is carried, as seen in Fig'l I Throughout the side wall and bottom members o each section are formed circular`convexo-concave beads or bosses 4 that are roduced by bulging the material of the s eet Speccation of Letters Patent. Application @lea April 29, 1907. serial Nb. 371,013.

from which the section is formed in an outward direction at the point'of each bead or boss, the object in producing these beads or bosses at intervals throughout the members of the sections being to furnish cushioning action in the packing members when they are in position to incase a bottle that is tobe protected by vthe pack'in The beads. or`
bosses have a quincuncia or staggered arrangement.
In applying the packing to a bottle the sections A are mated together around the b'ottle so that the edges of the side wall members of the sections abut against each other, as seen in Fig. I, and the bottom members of the sections occupy overlappin positions beneath the bottom of the bott e, as seen in Fig. III, where they aiiord double rotection against injury to the bottom of t e bottle, due to the provision of a double cushion produced in the two bottom members, the convexities of the beads or bosses ofthe inner bottom member fitting or seating in the concavities of the beads or bosses of the outer bottom member.
I claim:
^ 1. A bottleppacking comprising a pair ofI right angie Side wan membersand in the bottom members, the convexities pf the beads of the inner bottom member fitting in` thev concavities of the beads of the outer bot- BENJAMIN- y KOCHS.
