I SIFTER-TOP POWDER CAN OR BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 5, 1908.
Application filed October 5,1907. Serial No. 396,015.
T 0 all 'ufiizmr/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, Joux M. IIO'IIIERSALL, a citizen of the United States, residin in New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Boxes, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates boXes for toilet powder or other articles.
Hy invention consists in a sifter top can or box having a sheet metal body and. a perforated upper or top head permanently seamed or secured thereto, the body being provided with a friction seat wall at its upper one and with a. plurality of externally projecting shoulders, preferably four in number, the same constituting what may be termed a sectional bead, and a rotatable friction cover furnished with a series of perforations therein. adapted to register with the perforations in the upper or top head of the can, and having a deep flange or rim surrounding and embracing the upper end of the can body and provided at its lower portion with an annular internal channel or groove and an inturned cooperating with the sectional head or series of shoulders on the can body to lock or secure the rotatable perforated friction cover on the can body while permitting it to rotate to the extent necessary to open and close the perfora- I tions in the inner or permanent top head of the can. The perforated permanent top head of the can is provided with 1: stop projection and the rotary perforated cover with a cooperating slot or sto to limit the turning movement of the per 'orated cover.
My invention further consists in the novel construction of parts and devices and in the novel combinations of parts and devices herein shown and described.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of. this specification, Figure 1 is a cen tral vertical section of a sitter top powder can or box embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 8-3 of Fig.1.
In the drawing, A represents the body of my sheet metal sitter top can or box, B its permanent perforated inner upper head, C its permanent bottom head. and D the rotatable perforated friction cover.
The inner perforated top head B permal l l thereof. to sifler top cans or nently c re turned or ljolded seam (ld to the body A by an inwardly so as to leave smooth cylindric friction seat wall a at the upper end of (Z of the perforated rotary cover D. improvement in Sifter-Top Powder (fans or I the body A for the deep flange The permanent top head B is provided with a series of perforations b m the flat or disk portion b The perforated provided with an annular top head B is also cylindric flange 6 the upper part of which projects above the folded seam seaming flanges I) of the top a formed by the interfolding head B and a of the can body [L The can body Ais provided just below the cylindric friction seat wall (1 with a plurality or series of externally projecting short shoulders a", preferably four mg a short segn'ient of a in number, each becircle and the same to 'e'ther formin what mi ht be termed a sectional or segmental bead.
The rotary cover D has a cyiindric flange.
which fits the rylindric the can body cover flange annular roove (1 terminal 'llan receive and shoulders a? and secure the rotary cover permitting it to rotate freely.
cover D is also provided at its with a raised or with an annular friction seat wall a of A and the lower portion of this (1 is provided with an. internal and an inwardly projecting ge or annular lip d adapted to embrace the short segmental on the can body and thus lock on the can while The rotary upper part dome-shaped center (i and fiat portion (2 which is furnished with a series of perforations (l adapted to be turned crating perforations The rotary c annular cylindrie flange ed to ht, surround atmg cylmdrlc flange 6 into registry with the coop- Z: in the top head B. over D is also provided with an or shoulder d adapt and embrace the cod erof the top heat B.
The top head B is further provided with a stop I) which fits in and correspondin cooperates With a g stop (Z on the rotary cover D to limit the turning thereof in respect to the perforated top head B. The stop on the top head B is preferably a raised teat or projection and that on the a short segm The inner filled througl rotar'y cover D is preferably ental slot.
perforated top head B and. the i outer deep flanged perforated cover D are both permanently seamed to the body A at where the cans are manufac- .en alter the can or box has been 1 its open bottom end, the loottom head 0 itself is permeneiitiy secured to the body A o e seem so rio uslgoods being peimecl oii theifein es the original goods ofthe .me' mfeot i'ler whose iebels or trode marlts are upon the em The segmentel be'od'or semesof short eeg meotel' externally projecting 'SlIlQlliidBiS on the body serve; in connection with the efmu- I lor reoiriz on the (lee fierwe of the cover to permeii'e' itly lock or secure the cover to the can, while at the some time permitting'the cover to be readily and oonveioientl turned hygraspiiig the cover with one ham and the body with the other.
