PIPE OR TUBE CLEANER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDMUND ALEXANDER JABLONSKY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Corona, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pipe or Tube Cleaner, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a a new and improved pipe or tube cleaner, more especially designed for use in the water pipes or tubes of boilers to remove adhering scale .and other extraneous matter in a very effective manner and in a comparatively short time.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional side elevation of the improvement; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the cutters; Fig. 3 is a front end elevation of' the improvement, and Fig. 4 is a cross section of the same on the line 44 of Fig. 1.

The rod A on which the pipe or tube cleaner is mounted, is provided at its inner end with a socket B for connection with suitable mechanism or devices for turning the cleaner and forcing it through the pipe or tube to be cleaned of scale, sediment or other extraneous matter.

On the outer end of the rod A is secured or formed a head C, and a movable head D is mounted to slide near the inner end of the rod A, the said movable head D abutting against a nut E screwing on the rear threaded portion A of the rod A. By screwing the nut E forwardly, the head'D is moved towards the head C, and when the desired adjustment is made, a jam nut E is screwed u to lock the nut E in place. On the heads and D are mounted longitudinally extending cutters F grouped around the rod A, and preferably in the form of steel bars approximately triangular in cross section, and capable of assuming an arch shape between the heads 0 and D. Each of the cutters F extends with its forward end through a correspondingly shaped recess formed in the head Specification of Letters Patent.

C, and a shoulder F on the cutter F abuts against the inner face of the head C, as plainly lndlcated in Figs. 1 and 3. The rear end of each cutter F is seated in a recess in the movflue in which the cleaner is to be used at the time.

By reference to Figs. 3 and 4 it will be seen that the flat side or base of each cutter F is the blades are beveled in order that they may I act as cutters and not merely as scrapers.

By giving an arch shape to the cutters F, it is evident that the forward end of the cleaner readily enters the pipe or tube, and the cutting edges of the cutters F gradually cut into scale and other extraneous matter, so that it requires comparatively little ower to turn the cleaner and push the same engthwise through the pipe or tube to be cleaned.

By making the head D adjustable as described, the desired diameter can be given to the cleaner approximately at the middle of the cutters F, to correspond to the inside diameter of the pipe or tube to be cleaned. In case a cutter F becomes worn out or broken, the same can be readily replaced by a new one, and if the cutting edges of the cutters F become dull, they can be conveniently and quickly sharpened on a grindstone or other suitable device.

Byreference to the drawings it will be noticed that the inner sides of the cutters F are spaced from the surface of the rod A to form sufficient clearance for the scales or other extraneous matter cut loose by the cutters and hence the tool is not liable to be clogged up and can be easily worked through the pipe or tube.

It will be noticed from an inspection of Figs. 1 and 4 that the bevel of the cutting I the rod, the cutting edge of the bar being edge of the bars increases towards the center thereof, and that the bars are slightly arched away from the rod.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A boiler tube cleaner, comprising a rod provided at its outer end with a fixed head provided with an annular series of spaced reccsses extending therethrough, a movable head provided on its inner face with an annular series of recesses, means for moving the movable head toward the fixed head, and

" cutters in the form of bars triangular in cross section, said bars being arranged parallel with the rod, and with their bases toward the rod, one end of said bars being seated in the recesses of the movable head, and the other end extending through the recesses in the fixed head, each of said bars being provided with a shoulder for engaging the inner face of the fixed or the movable head for the purpose set forth.

2. A boiler tube cleaner, comprising a rod having a fixed and a movable head, and longitudinally extending cutters grouped around and normally parallel with the-said rod and held in the said heads, the said cutters being in the form of steel bars triangular in cross section, and each having a flat side opposite outside and the ends of said bars extending beyond the fixed head.

3. A boiler tube cleaner, comprising a rod 3 having a fixed and a movable head, and longitudinally extending cutters grouped around and normally parallel to said rod and held in the said heads, the said cutters being in the form of steel bars triangular in cross 4 section, and which have a flat side opposite the rod, the cutting edge of the bar being outside, the bevel of the said cutting edge in creasing in width toward the center of the bar.

4. A boiler cleaner, comprising a rod hav- 4 ing a fixed and a movable head and longitudinally extending cutters grouped around normally parallel with the said rod, and held in the said heads, the said cutters being in the form of steel bars triangular in cross sec- 5 tion, and each having a fiat side opposite the rod, and the outermost edge beveled in a transverse direction to form a longitudinal cutting edge.
