ALBERT P. STOCKER, OF STRUTHERS, OHIO.
BRAGE FOR SHEET-METAL rims.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 28, 1908.
Application filed January 31, 1908. Serial I To. 418,592.
To all whom it ma concem:
Be it known that I, ALBERT P. S'rooKER, a citizen of the United Statesof America, residing at Struthers, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Brace for Sheet-Metal Piles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to t e accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a brace for'sheet metal piles, and the primary object of my invention is, to provide a brace that can be used in connection with freight cars for maintaining metallic sheets, rods, bars and structural iron in a pile in the car. i
Another objectof this invention isto provide a simple and inexpensive brace that can be easily placed in position to retain pieces of material1n an orderly grouper pile.
My invention will be. presently pended claims. v
. Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation ofabrace constructed-in ac cordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, and. Fig. 3 is an end view.
'In the accompanying drawings, 1 'desig hates the floor of a car and 2 the sidewall thereof.
being placed adjacent to the wall 2.
My brace comprises a plate or bar 4 having a bent end 5, by'whichsaid bar or plate is se cured to the wall 2 of the car, by nails, screws or similar fastening means. i The opposite end of the bar or plate 4 is bent to provide a book 6. Adapted to engage the hook 6 of the bar or plate 4 is a metallic strip 7 havin depending twisted ends 8, which are iercewhereby the strip can be secured to t e floor 1 by nails 9 or similar fastening means. The twisted ends 8 of the strip are formed at an describedand then specifically pointed out inthe ap-' Upon the floor 1.1 have represented a pile of metallic sheeting 3, this sheeting I angle to'the body thereof or thgt portion engaged by the bar or plate 4, an e ends are twisted whereby the flat or broad surface of the strip 7 will lie in engagement with the edges of the metallic sheets 3, while the flat side of the late orbar 4 engages the uppermost meta lic sheet. 'It will thus be observed that the metallic sheeting will be maintained in a pile irrespective of the vibrations to which the car may be subjected.
I do not care to confine myself to the size of the brace, 01' to the material in connection with which the same is used. i
Having n'ow'described my. invention What I claim as new, is
1. The combination with a car and a pile of material located-in said car, of a brace for maintaining said material in a pile, said brace comprising a bar or upon the top of the pile and aving one end secured to said'car, and a stri enga 'ng the opposite end of said late or ar an having its ends fixed to the ottom of said car, substantially as described.
late mounted H2; The combination with a car, and a ile" of material located therein, of a barorp atearranged upon the top of said pile 'and having one end fixed to said car, a strip enga 'ng the opposite end of said bar or plate an havingits ends secured to the bottom of said car.
3. A brace of the type described comprisa hook sha ed end, a strip engaging the hoo shaped en of said ing a bar or plate-havi bar or late and having its ends disposedat an ang e thereto. 4
1 Intestimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT STOCKER.
