To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OI-IN FLINDALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Time-Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

In order to prevent the key 8 from entering the notch 6, except at a predetermined time, a wall or barrier 9 is normally interposed between the key and the locking bar, and this barrier 9 is shown in the drawings as being in the nature of an annular flange carried by a wheel 10. This annular flange, however, is formed with a cut-away portion 11, and when the wheel 10 is turned so that the cutaway portion is located between the key and the locking bar, the former can be turned so that the web thereof will enter the notch 6 and withdraw the said locking bar into an unlocked position.
The wheel 10 carrying the annular flange 9 is pivotally mounted upon a pin carried by projection 12 upon the inner side of the door 2 and is provided around its periphery with a plurality of teeth 13, one side of each ofthe teeth eing preferably inclined, while the opposite side has a radial direction. It will also be observed that the formed in connection therewith a pair of arms or guide members 14, for the key 8.
For the operation of the wheel 10 a pivoted arm 15 is employed, which has its lower end pivotally connected to the door 2 at 16, while its upper end is bifurcated and formed with two oppositely disposed-pieces 17, which cooperate with an eccentric member 18 to produce a vibrating movement of the arm 15. Pivotally connected to the arm 15 at an intermediate point is a pawl 19, the extremity of which is bent downwardly, dicated at 20, and engages with the teeth 13 upon the wheel 10. 7' h mechanism for preventing the locking bolt from being retracted by the use of a key, except at a predetermined time.

A further feature of the invention resides in the provision of a pivoted arm for controlling the movements of the barrier, and of means whereby said arm is operated through the means of a clock.
With these and other objects in view,

In the drawings :Figure l is a vertical, longitudinal, sectional view through a toy safe provided with a lock constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical, transverse, sectional view through the same.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the casing or walls of a safe, and 2 a door for the safe. This door 2 is provided with a locking bar 3 which is slid ably mounted thereon in the usual manner, and is normally caused to move forwardly so as to asf revolve, sume a locked position by means of the spring 4 whio ears against a pin 5 projecting from the locking bar, and is connected to the door 2. In a time lo ck, the combination of a looking mechanism, a key therefor, a toothed wheel, an annular wall carried by the toothed The eccentric member 18 receives motion from a clock '22, carried by the door 2, through the medium of a train of gears 23, which are so proportioned that the eccentric member completes one revolution in a fixed period of time, preferably 24 hours. With this arrangement it will be apparent that for every revolution of the eccentric member, the wheel 10 will be revolved through a distance corresponding to one of the teeth 13, and where the eccentric makes one revolution every 24 hours, the number of days which before the locking bar can be retracted, Will be indicated by the number of teeth 13, which the pawl 19 must pass over in order to move the cut-away portion 11 of the annular flange 9 between the key 8 and the locking bar. In atime lock, the combination of a looking mechanism, a key therefor, a toothed wheel, an annular wall carried by the toothed wheel and having a cutaway portion, the said annular wall normally preventing the use of the key, a pivoted arm, an eccentric member operating said arm, and a pawl carried by the reciprocating arm and engaging the toothed wheel whereby the key can operate through the before-mentioned cut-away portion of the annular wall at a predetermined time.
7. In a time lock, the combination of a notched locking bar, a key designed to engage the notch in the locking bar to withdraw the latter, a wheel, a flange carried by the wheel and normally interposed between the key and the notch in the locking bar, said flange being provided witha cut-away portion for accommodating said key and means for turning the wheel to permit the withdrawal of the locking bar at a predetermined time.

In the preferred construction of the invention shown in the drawings, the upper portion of the door 2 is formed with an opening 26, and the face of the clock 22 fits against the opening 26 so as to be readily visible therethrough. A partition 27 is also employed to protect the mechanism of the lock which is all carried by the door 2.
What I claim is z 1. In a time lock, the combination of a locking mechanism, a key therefor, a toothed wheel, a laterally projecting annular wall carried by the toothed wheel and normally interposed between the key and the locking mechanism, said wall being provided with a cut-away portion to enable the key to operate therethrough, apivoted member carrying a pawl engaging the toothed wheel, and means for operating said member.

In a timelock, the combination ofalocking mechanism, a key therefor, a wheel, a laterally projecting wall carried by the wheel and normally interposed between the key and the locking mechanism, said wall being provided with a cut-away portion to enable the key to operate therethrough, a pivotally mounted arm provided with means for turning the Wheel, and means for operating said arm.
