FLY PROTECTOR FOR SCREEN DOORS. APPLIGATIONIILED 001 11, 1907.

FLY-PROTECTOR FOR SCREEN-DOORS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented A ra-14, 1908.
Application filed October 11, 1907. Serial No. 396,883.
T 0 allwfiom it may co'nccrn:
Be it known that we. Ax'rox WAL'rEnBAcn, of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Lows HEiL, of Marshfield, Wisconsin. have invented a Fly-Protector for Screen-l)oors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for re,-
venting insects, and more particularly ies,'
from gaining access to the interior of a room over the top of the door when the door is open.
Experience shows that flies tend to gather on the outside of a wire screen-door near the top, and when the door is opened they fly up over the top of the door and enter effort in 0 ening the door, shall not interfere with the c osing of the same by a door-closer or spring, shall not be in the way of persons going out and in, and shall not form a large or unsightly excrescence upon the door or' frame.
VVit-h these and other objects in view our invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more full described, shown in the accompanying awings, and particularly pointed out inthe appended claims; it being under stood that c anges. in the'form', proportion,
' size and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the ad'- vantages o the invention-- 'In the appended drawing, Figure l is a prerspective view of a screen door and doorame having our invention attached thereto. Fig. 2 shows in plan view the frame work of our invention. r
In these drawings every reference letter refers always to the same part.
The drawing shows a door-way comprising a door a and a frame consisting of jambs b and cand lintel d, the door beingmounted upon hinges .e. Overthe top of the door is mounted a fan-shaped arrangement consisting of a number of r1 s f pivoted upon a pin 9 mounted in cars 71-, the pin 9 hem set in vertical position and in line with tie pivotal axis bars or ribs f is laid a flexible fabric i which holes j therein. An u right bar 7c is set on .the upper edge of the cor and on the outer face of same, in such manner that it does vents them from extending over the outside of the door.
It will be obvious that the protector as described will be effective in preventing the entry of flies over the top of the door, and will also not interfere ith the opening and closing thereof. It also interferes as little as possible with appearances. However, to further protect the opening of the door against the ingress of flies, we provide a fringe of loose cords or ribbons m depending 'rom the outer edge of the fabric "L. which are cut off average person's head without causing annoyance. In this manner the whole opening is effectively closed, as the flies will not enter the lower portion of the opening through which the person is passing, being scared away by his movement.
We .wish it understood that the fabric i is not essential to our invention, as the bars J pro erly connected together, especially if mar e wide enough to fully overlap each other. The fringe m, while useful, is also not essential. If used, the ribs f should be made to project beyond the edge of the door as shown, so that the fringe will be held away from the opening and notinterfere with the door in c osmg.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A fly-protector for doors, comprisinga pluralityo over-lapping ribs pivoted on a single axis and adapted to be set over the 'door. with said axis in line with the axis of the door-hinges, means for attaching the lowermost rib to the door and the u perrnost to the door-frame and a fringe of pendent objects looselv depending from the outer ends of'said ri s.
2. A fiy-protector for doors comprising, in combination with the door and frame, a
luralit of ribs pivotedon a single axis in ine wit the pivotal axis of the door, and a upon which the door turns. Over the frame-- may be secured to said ribs by meansof not interfere with the lintel in closing, but actsas an abutment for the ribs f and pro 1 about five feet six inches above the floor, that is at such height that they will just graze the would form a very effective screen, when r flexible fabric mounted thereover and connectedat one side with the door and at the other with the frame.
3. A fly-protector for doors'comprising, in combination with the' door and frame, a plurality of ribs pivoted on a single axis in line with the pivotal axis of the door, a
' flexible fabric mounted thereover and conote on a vertical axis at one side of the oor and having fabric covering them and connected at one side to the door and at the other to the frame, and an upright bar projecting above the door and acting as an abutment for said ribs.
5. A ily pro'tector for doors consisting of a plurality of folding members one over the other pivoted on a sin le axis on the bin ed side of the door and a ove the latter an so connected to the door and frame and to each other as to move equally upon each other in opening of the door forming'a protective covering for the opening above the door; and an upright bar on the door above and outside the door acting as an abutment for said folding members.
6. A fly-protector for doors comprising, in combination with the door an plurality of ribs pivoted on a single axis in ine with the pivotal axis of the door, a flexible fabric mounted thereover and connected at one side with the door and at the other with the frame, and a plurality of .depending cords attached to the outer edge of the device and depending to a certain distance above the floor.
In witness whereof, We have hereunto set our hands in presence of two witnesses.
