BOTTLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HILLARD S. I\IIT OHELL, citizen of the United States, residing at VVilton, in the county of Little River and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object an improved construction of bottle designed to protect the contents thereof from adulteration or fraudulent substitution, so that the dealer and the purchasers of the bottled goods may feel sure that the goods are what is bargained for.

The invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of parts which I shall first describe and then point out the novel features in the a pended claim.

For a full unc erstanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a bottle, provided with the im rovements of my invention; Fig. 2 is a simil ar view of the botltle, inverted; Fig. 3 is a detail view of the sea Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a bottle neck which may be an integral part of a bottle structure or a separate neck inserted in and cemented in place in another neck, and the said neck 1 is provided at diametrically opposite points with two recesses-2.

3 designates a seal which is preferably of glass and which is provided with an opening 4 extending entirely therethrough, and a spring 5 of any desired form or material is located within the opening 4 and presses eX- pansively upon two locking pins 6, so that when the seal is pressed downwardly within the neck 1, the pins will spring out into the recesses 2 and hold the seal securely in place.

with a band 7? that may be formed of rubber, cork, or the like. A s ring 8 is interposed between the seal 3 an the valve 7 and said seal and valve are provided with nipples 9 and 10 facing each other and formed with openings through which the extremities of the spring are hooked, after the ends of the springs are placed over the respective nipples. The valve 7 is adapted to normally close the lower end of the neck 1 so as to close the outlet for the contents of the bottle, and the spring 8 is of such a tension that the weight of the contents will force the valve open when the bottle is inverted to pour out the contents. The seal 3 is provided around its margin with a series of zigzag grooves 11, forming outlet passages and at the same time, by their irregular shape, preventing a wire from being inserted therethrough so as to tamper with the valve.

From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple and e'l'licient bottle of the character described, whichis composed of comparatively few and simple parts that will be cheap to manufacture and easily assembled.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

The combination with a bottle and its neck, of a seal adapted to be thrust into said neck and provided in its margin with a series of Zig-zag grooves forming outlet assages and said seal being also provided with a depending nipple, means for locking said seal in the bottle neck, a valve mounted in said neck below the seal and providedwith an upwardly facing nipple, said valve being adapted to seat against the lower part of the neck, and a coiled eX ansive spring interposed between the va ve and seal with its ends encircling said nipples.
