NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. FREWEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilkinsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in non-refillable bottles and has for its object to provide a bottle which cannot be filled by immersion or otherwise after it has once been sealed without first breaking the bottle.

Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 is a bottle having a neck 2 both being formed semi-cylindrical, and having a common flat surface 3. Lugs 1 are formed on the lower inner portion of the neck 2 upon which seats the valve holding member 5 which is formed of two members 6 and 7 which may be formed of glass, plastic or other suitable material and between which is interposed a member 8 formed preferably of cork. The member 7 is provided with recesses 7 and 7 b at its upper and lower ends respectively in which seat the flanges 6 and 6 formed at the upper and lower ends respectively of the member 6, which seat in the said recesses 7F and 7 respectively, whereby the cork member 8 will be held a ainst either accidental or intentional displacement after the bottle has once been seats for the disk valves 20 and 21. These valve seats cross the channel 14 and are formed oval in shape, the lower portion 22 and 23 thereof being larger than the upper ends thereof, whereby both of their opposing walls 24: and 25 incline downwardly toward said channel 14 so that the valve members 21 and 22 will incline to slide or roll toward said channel and seat thereover when the bottle is held in any position other than when its neck is inclined downward to permit an egress of the contents of the bottle, in which case said valves will take the positions shown in Fig. 6. Opposing vertical recesses are also provided in the surfaces 9 and 10 of the members 6 and 7 whereby the vertical valve seat 26 is formed. This valve seat crosses the inclined portion 16 of the channel 14: whereby the valve disk 27 will seat across said channel when the bottle is held in an upright or upwardly inclined position. The shape of this valve seat 26 is the same as that of the seats 18 and 19 being larger at its lower end. At the upper end of the member 5 an enlargement 28 is formed in which is seated an inverted thimble shaped channel blocking member 29 having a flange 30 formed at its lower end by means of which it is held against removal from said member 5. The opening 31 in said member is of the same diameter as the channel 14 and the cylindrical wall thereof is provided with a series of inclined openings 32 through which the contents of the bottle may pass into the enlargement 28 and from thence through the outlet 33 into the space 3 1 in the neck of the bottle above the member 5. At the upper end 35 of the bottle neck 2 and on the flat surface thereof is provided a horizontal opening 36 through which the semi-circular guard member 37 is inserted andan annular recess 38 is provided around the cylindrical portion of the bottle neck opposing said opening 36 to receive the arcuate edge 39 of the member '37. After the insertion of said member 37 into neck. The guard 37 is provided with a series-of inclined openings 40 through which the liquid may pass from the space 34. Above the member 37 is inserted a stopper 42 of any suitable or desired material.
It will be observed from the construction of the above described device that the disks 20, 21, and 27 will seat themselves across the channel 14 when the bottle is held in any position whereby liquid could be poured or forced into the bottle, even when the bottle is in a horizontal position from any side, the disks will remain across said channel, consequently liquid cannot be forced into the bottle even by emersion. However when the bottle is inverted the valves will roll from across said channel and permit the contents of the bottle to freely flow therefrom. It will also be observed that the device is so arranged that it will be impossible to insert a wire into the channel in order to hold the disks out of a position to close the channel, because first the inclination of the opening 40 will guide the wire away from the outlet 33 which is raised above the surface 43 of the member 5 so that even if a wire could be inserted through the openings 43 and directed toward the channel 14 it would be a hard matter to raise it over said outlet but should this be possible the upper surface 44 of the member28 would bar its passage farther down the channel.
Having now described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bottle and neck therefor formed semicylindrical and each having a fiat surface, an opening in the flat surface of said neck, a guard member adapted to be inserted into said neck through said opening, said guard being sealed into said neck, a valve member seated in said neck, a channel passing through said member and valves adapted to close said channel, said guard having openings therein inclined away from the mouth of said channel, said channel having an extension above the surface of said member, said channel having an enlargement therein, a projecting member seated in said enlargement, said projecting member being formed thimble shaped, the cylindrical walls thereof being perforated, said perforations being inclined, the diameter of said enlargement being greater than the diameter of said walls, the upper surfaces of said projecting member being inperforate, pockets in which said valves are seated.
2. A bottle and neck therefor formed semicylindrical and each having a flat surface, an opening in the flat surface of said neck, a guard member adapted to be inserted into said neck through said opening, said guard being sealed into said neck, a valve member seated in said neck, a channel passing through said member and valves adapted to close said channel, said guard having openings therein inclined away from the mouth of said channel, said channel having an extension above the surface of said member, said channel having an enlargement therein, a projecting member seated in said enlargement, said projecting member being formed thimble shaped, the cylindrical walls thereof being perforated, said perforations being inclined, the diameter of said enlargement being greater than the diameter of said walls, the upper surfaces of said projecting member being imperforate, pockets in which said valves are seated, certain of said pockets being inclined, one of said pockets being vertical-1y dis posed, all of said pockets being elliptical having their enlarged ends crossing said channel.
3. A bottle and neck therefor, a plug having valves thereon, said neck having an opening in its side wall above said plug and a guard adapted to be inserted in said opening to hold said plug from removal.
4. A bottle and neck therefor, a plug having valves therein, said neck having an opening in its side walls above said plug and a guard adapted to be inserted in said opening to hold said plug from removal, said neck having an internal groove adapted to receive the edges of said guard.
5. A bottle and neck therefor, a plug having valves therein, said neck having an opening in its side walls above said plug and a guard adapted to be inserted in said opening to hold said plug from removal, said neck having an internal groove adapted to receive the edges of said guard, said guard being perforated.
6. A bottle and neck therefor, a plug having valves therein, said neck having an opening in its side walls above said plug and a guard adapted to be inserted in said opening to hold said plug from removal, said neck having an internal groove adapted to receive the edges of said guard said guard being perforated, and a recess formed in the upper end of said plug and an inverted perforated cup-shaped member in said recess, said plug having a channel extending from said recess to the lower end of the plug, said valves adapted to close said channel.
