Description
PATENTED MAR. 31 1908..
s. S. FOX. CUFF HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED ARE. 3, L901.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. sinner. s. FOX, or MARION, onro.
CUFF-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 81, 1808.
Application filed April 3, 1907. Serial No. 366,209;
securing ends to the lining of coat sleeves so as to maintain the desired exposure when the cuffs and coat are worn.
' For a full description of the invention and the .merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction,
reference is to be had to the following descri tion and accompanying drawings.
i 3 and pressure pieces 4 and 5. The clip 1 is 'e the inventlon may. be adapted to different forms and conditions by changes in the structure and minor details within the scope of the appended claims without departin 'from the spirit or essential features thereo still the preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
- Figure l isa sectional view showing the application ofthe invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspectiveviewof the holder. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of'the holder.
Fig. 4 is a erspective view of one member of the liolder. Fig. 5 is a perspective view ofthe other member of the holder.
Corresponding and like parts are referredto in the followin description and indicated in all theviews o the drawings by the same reference characters.
The device comprises a clip 1, jaws 2 and adapted to engage with the inner end of a cufi', whereas the jaws 2 and 3 grip the lining of the coat sleeve. The pressure pieces 4 and 5 enable the jaws to be separated either to release the lining or to permit of the lining being inserted between the jaws. v
' The clip com rises a base 6 and a hook or hill 7, the latter eing curved near its free end towards the base to provide a contracted throat to grip the cufi. The jaw 3 is-formed with the base 6 and is rovided by bending an end portion of the p ate forming the base into the form substantiall as shown, the hookor bill 7 being forme opposite end portion of the plate in the mannersubstantially as disclosed. The pressurepie'ce 4 is partly cut from the plate forming the base and is bent in an opposite direction from the hook or bill and projects beyond the biting ends to make. positive engag by bending the.
same a short distance to enable'a'thumb or finger of the hand conveniently snorting 'ressure thereon, either when attaching the older to the lining of the sleeve or when releasing said holder.
The jaw 3 is fixed, whereas-the jaw 2is movable. The two 'aws are 'of'similar forr'n'ationand are prov ded with teeth at their ement with the andpreventslippingor oosening ofthe o der when in place A shank 9 projects from the jaw 2 and is slidable upon the base 6 andpperates through an opening 10 in the lower end of the j aw3, said shank being extended andterminating in the pressure piece 5 which is of hook form similar to the pressure piece 4. To give proper direction to the jaw 2 and hold it in place, lips' I 1 are ressed from the base 6 and are bent to exten over opposite edge portions of the shank 9, and these hps in conjunction with the opening 10 hold the shank '9 in proper place and direct it in its reciprocating movements. A springl2 of the coiltype is interposed between the jaw 3 and the pressure piece 5 and normally presses the jaws together'by exerting an outward pressure upon the pressure piece 5, whereby the jaw 2 1s forced towards the jaw 3. A rod 13 passes through the spring 12 and retains it 1n lace; One end of the rod 13 is attached to re pressure iece 5 and the opposite end passes throng an opening 14in the jaw 3. I
A holder constructed substantia ll as herein set forth is fitted to the inner en of a cuff by passing the latter between the book 7 and base 6 of the clip, after which the pres;
movable jaw slldably mounted upon the base, and .a second pressure piece carried by the movable jaw.
' 3. A oufi holder comprising a base, a fixed jag carried b the base, a cooperating mova e ase and extending through the fixed jaw, and meansholding the movable jaw in 00- operative relation to the fixed j aw. 4, A oufi holder comprising a base, a fixed fixed jaw, a shan jaw, a s ank carried by the movable. aw, the said shank being slidable upon the ing with the fixed jaw, a shank-carried b the movable jaw, the said shank being sli ably mounted upon the base and extending through the fixed jaw-where it terminates in a pressure member, and 'a corresponding earrie by the movable erating with the jaw and extending through the fixed jaw where it terminates in a pressure member, and means for holding the jaws normally in a cooperative relation.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL S. FOX. [L. 8.], Witnesses:
