To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BUROHARD D. THOMP- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Jewett, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Stopper-Holders for Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relatesto improvements in detachable stopper holder for bottles.

The object of my invention is to provide a stopper holder which is adapted to be readily detached or attached to the neck of the bottle, and firmly held in its operative position, so that the stopper can be operated in the usual manner 1n stoppers of this character.

Another object of my invention is to provide a more simple, cheap and efiective device of the character described.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a side elevation of the neck portion of a bottle showing my stopper holder applied thereto, and the stopper in its locked position. Fig. 2, is a detached perspective view of my complete device. Fig. 3, is a detached perspective view of the locking loop for looking the device to the neck of the bottle.

Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents the neck of the ordinary bottle to which stoppers of this character are applied, and which are provided with a bulged portion 2 which serves as means for preventing the device from slipping from the bottle, which I will now proceed to describe.

My device consists of a semi-circular piece of wire 3 having eyes 4 and 5 formed therein, and its ends 6 and 7 extended outwardly in a straight line. The extreme outer end of the end 6 has an eye 8 formed therein and the extreme outer end of the other end 7 is provided with a hook 9. The portion 3 is of a shape to snugly fit the neck of the bottle below the bulged portion 2. Secured within the eye 8 is the eye 10 carried by the straight horizontal wire 11, and the opposite end of the wire 11 has an eye 12 into which the hook 9 may be inserted, and whereby the straight horizontal wire is supported as shown. The wire passes on the opposite side of the portion 3, and a short distance from the neck. The securing bail 13 is formed of a 100 slightly curved as shown, and provided wit eyes 14 and 15 through which the horizontal member 11 passes, and thus the loop is pivotally supported thereby. The ends 16 and 17 of the securing loop are extended inwardly and slightly upward so that when the loo is forced downward the end engages the nec of the bottle just under the bulged portion 2, drawin the ortion 3 tightly around the neck 0 the ottle, and when the loop is swung downwardly past the center line the device, as will be seen, is firmly looked upon the neck of the bottle.

Passing within the eyes 4 and 5 of the loop 3 are the ends 18 and 19 of the bottle sto per securing lever 15, the said lever being 0 the form shown, and having eyes 20 and 21 formed therein, and the vertical portions 22 and 23 having the ends 18 and 19 entering the eyes 4 and 5, as before described. The bottle stopper bail 24 is of a U-shaped form, having the horizontal portion 25 which passes through the opening 26 in the stopper 27, whereby the stopper may be moved horizontally for adjustmg it to accurately seat itself in the mouth of the bottle. The lower ends of the bail 24 are turned inwardly at 28 and 29, and pass into the eyes 20 and 21, and are thus held. As will be seen, the pressing down upon the lever 15 draws the bail 24 downward and throws it inward ast the pivotal point of the lever, and there ore is locked. in the position shown in Fig. 1.

By the construction set forth, it will be seen that the im roved stopper holder can be readily attache to a bottle, and the stopperoperating means operate in the same manner as the ordinary mechanism in stoppers of this character. The device, as'before stated, can be removed from one bottle and placed upon another, thus making a less expensive stopper which can be removed when washing the bottle, or removed when a bottle becomes broken.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A detachable stopper holder for bottles comprising a wire for surrounding the neck of a bottle, a lever secured to said wire for locking the same on the neck of the bottle, and a bottle stopper locking means carried by said wire.

2. A detachable stopper holder for bottles comprising a wire for surrounding the neck of a bottle, a horizontal wire having one end permanently secured to the wire and the other end detachably secured to the wire, a locking lever carried by said horizontal wire, and a bottle stopper locking means carried by the wire for surrounding the neck of the bottle.

3. The combination with the neck of abottle having a beading surrounding the same, of a wire partially surrounding the neck below the beading, a rod connecting the ends of the wire, a pivoted locking lever carried by said rod and engaging the neck of the bottle below thebeading, a locking lever carried by the wire, and a stopper-carrying means carried by the locking lever.

4. The combination with the neck of a bottle having a beading surrounding the same, of a semi-circular wire surrounding the neck of the bottle below the beading, and having eyes opposite the center of the neck of the bottle, and its ends extended outwardly in a horizontal position, a horizontal rod removably attached to one end of the said wire and permanently connected to the other end of the wire, a lever pivoted upon said horizontal rod and adapted to engage the neck of the bottle below the beading on the neck of the bottle, a lever having its ends pivoted in the eyes carried by the wire, and having eyes intermediate its ends, and a stopper-carrying bail having its ends entering the eyes in the last mentioned lever, whereby the stopper is locked upon the mouth of the bottle, and astopper carried by said bail.

5. The combination With the neck of a bottle having a beading surrounding the same, of a semi-circular wire surrounding the neck of the bottle below the beading and having eyes formed therein opposite the center of the neck of the bottle, and its ends extended outwardly in a horizontal position, and one end formed with an eye and the other end with a hook, a transverse rod having eyes in its ends and interlocking with the hook and eye of the wire, a locking lever formed of a piece of wire and having eyes through which the transverse rod passes, and the inner ends of the lever adapted to engage the neck of the bottle below the beading and locking the semi circular piece of wire around the neck of the bottle, a stopper lever having its ends entering the eyes in the semi-circular wire and formed with eyes therein, and a stopper bail having its ends entering the eyes in the stopper lever, a stopper carried by the bail whereby the stopper is drawn tightly down into the mouth of the bottle.

6. The combination with the neck of a bottle having a beading surrounding the same, of a wire partially surrounding the neck below the beading, a rod having one end permanently connected to the wire and the other end detachably secured to the wire, a F

pivoted locking lever carried by said rod and engaging the neck of the bottle below the beading, a lock-lever carried by the wire, and a stopper-carrying means carried by the locking lever.

7. The combination with the neck of a bottle having a beading surrounding the same, of a semi-circular wire surrounding the neck of the bottle below the beading and having eyes formed therein opposite the center of the neck of the bottle, and its ends extending outwardly beyond the neck of the bottle and having an eye formed in one end and a hook in the other end, a horizontal rod having eyes interlocking with the hook and eye of the wire, a locking lever formed of a single piece of wire and having eyes formed therein intermediate its ends and o positely arranged, and through which tie transverse bar passes, the endsof the lever bent to conform with the curvature of the neck of: the bottle, and a bottle stopper locking lever pivoted in the eyes carried by the wire, and a stopper-carrying bail carried by said lever.
