ISAAC W. MCCLANAHAN, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
CHAIR ATTACHIVIENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAo W. MoOLANA- HAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Chair Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to chair attachments and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide an attachment in the form of a supplemental seat adapted to be applied to dental, physicians and barbers chairs for the use of children or persons of diminutive stature.
The attachment consists of a seat which is mounted upon hangers having hooked extremities for engagement with the upper edge of the back of the chair. Saidhangers are hinged or collapsible, and a pair of foldable arms is also provided.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chair with the attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the attachment. s ective view of several separated parts of t e attachment; and Fig, 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of hanger for the attachment.
The attachment consists of the seat 1 to the rear edge of which is attached the hangers 2. Said hangers are preferably in the form of flat spring bands and are adapted to pass over the upper edge of the chair back as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The said hanger may, however, be in the form of a round metallic rod, as shown in Fig. 4. The lower ends of the hangers 2 are. pivotally or hingedly attached to the members 3 which in turn are secured to the seat 1. The front sides of the hangers 2 are provided with lugs Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 12, 1907.
Fig. 3 is a per- Patented March 31, 1908.
Serial No. 397,195.
4 upon which are mounted vertically disposed pins 5. The arms 6 are secured at their lower ends under the clips 7 which in turn-are attached to the seat 1. y The upper ends of the said arms 6 are provided with sockets 8 which are adapted to receive the pins 5. The arms 6 are also provided with the rest portions 9 which brace the said arms and serve as side rests for the attachment. When the attachment is applied to a chair the parts are in the osition as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. When the parts are collapsed the arms 6 are sprung so that the sockets 8 are disengaged from the pins 5. The said arms 6 are then swung down on top of the seat 1 and the hangers 2 are swung under the seat and their curved portions are sprung around the forward edge of the seat. Thus the attachment, when collapsed, occupics but small space.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is An attachment comprising a seat, spring hangers pivotally attached at their lower ends to the rear edge of the seat and being rearwardly curved at their upper ends, pins mounted upon said hangers, arms pivotally attached to the seat and adapted to engage the pins for holding the hangers and the seat in fixed positions with relation to each other the hangers being so mounted upon the seat that they may be swung against the under side of the same with the curved portions receiving the forward edge of the seat.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC W. 'MGCLANAHAN.
