The present invention has for its object to provide an automatic car coupler that will possess strength and durability and that will be perfect in its action and readily couple and uncoupled with comparative ease withlso out danger to the brakeman or other attendant of the road, the coupling being simple in construction and capable of4 being manufactured at a comparatively small cost.
The invention consists in a car coupling constructed substantially as shown in the. drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.

The coupling links C D are spring actuated through the medium of the flat springs E secured at their inner ends to the draw-head by any means found best adapted to the purpose, the free ends of the springs bearing upon the back of each coupling link, one spring being connected to the upper side of the drawhead and the other spring upon the under side thereofviene couplingy link moving in an upward direction and the other in a downward direction. The location of the springs upon the two drawheads are shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, ythe section being taken on line 33 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction of the arrow, the two springs upon one. of the draw-heads being shown in section and the springs on. the opposite draw-head being shown in elevation, which clearly illustrates the position, of the "springs in each draw-head.

Having now fully described myinvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z- A car-coupler comprising a draw-head having mortises upon its opposite sides with shoulders to form stops, coupling-links seated in said mortises and pivoted thereto and having shoulders to act against the' stops and flat curved springs connected at one end to the draw-head and the opposite end or extremity bent upward, said springs being connected to the draw-head upon the upper and lower sides thereof so that the links will be ties thereof bent upward as shown at h in reach of the person who uncouples the cars.
