WILLIAM D. OTIS, OF TIRENTON, NEBRASKA.
DEVICE FOR REINFORCING BUGGY-BOXES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 17, 1908.
Application filed September 18, 1907, Serial No. 393,554.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM D. OTIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Hitchcock and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Reinforcing Buggy-Boxesg and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apertains to make and use the same, reference eing had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for reinforcing the corners of buggy boxes and comprises two angular plates adapted to fit over the corners of the box and securely held in place.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings7 in which Figure l is a perspective view looking at Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the outside plate. Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the box and plates, and Figs. 4 and 5 are detailed views of the plates.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a buggT box of the usual construction and B and C designate two plates, the former of which is at right angles in cross section and its lower end closed and its upper end turned into a right angled flange C3, the edge C'l of which is downwardly bent and adapted to iit over .the upper edges of the end and side of the box. Said plate C has a right angled vflange C at its lower end which is apertured to receive bolts C2 or other fastening means, which pass through said apertures and also through apertures in the 'flange B2 at the bottom of theV plate B. Said plate C, it will be noted, is bent at angles at two points, indicated by letters E and E forming a llat portion intermediate the two side wings of the plate and said flattened portion is provided with apertures for the reception of screws K. The flanges formed at the upper end of the plate B are provided with apertures for the reception of screws N, whereby said [langes maybe held over the upper edge of the box with the ends of said flanges overlapping the upper end of the plate C, thereby preventing any water or foreign matter getting in between the plate C and the inner surface of the box.
By the provision of the device shown and described, it will be observed that a secure reinforcing means for a box is afforded which will prevent water or any foreign mattei' getting into joints of the box and thoroughly bracing the corners against strains, etc.
What I claim is A reinforcing means for buggy boxes comprising, in combination with the box, an inside plate having two wings which are at right angles to each other with an intermediate portion which is apertured, the bottom of said plate being at right angles to the sides thereof, the upper end of the plate being flush with the upper edge of the box, an outside angular plate having a flange at its upper end extending over the upper edge of the box and top of the inner plate and having a downwardly bent portion conforming to said right angled portions of the inner plate and intervening portion, a right angled flange at the lower end of said outside angular plate and screws passed through the flat portion of the inside plate intermediate the two side wings thereof, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
