Description

PATENTED FEB. 25, 1908.
S. ROLPSON-SGHMIDT. MEDICATED SILK PROTECTOR. APPLIGATION FILED JUNE 17, 1905. RENEWED JAN. 18, 1907.
INVENTOR:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SVEN ROLFSON-SCHMIDT, OF NEW DORP, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS,
TO RICHARD F. WOODWARD, OF HUNTINGTON, NEW YORK.
MEDICATED-SILK PROTECTOR.
' Patented Feb.2 ,1908.
Application filed June 17. 1905. Serial No. 265.776- Renewed January 18. 1907. Serial No. 352.963.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SvEN RoLFsoN- SCHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Dorp, Staten Island, in the a county of Richmond and State of New York,
have invented new and useful Improvements in Medicated-Silk Protectors, of which "tional view through the womb of a woman,-
the following is a specification.
One of the most dreaded and at the same time annoying diseases common among women is the so-called whites. Medical authorities have given thesubject of this disease deep thought, and have encouraged physicians to devote their time and study to the perfection of a remedy.
The object of my invention is to effect a permanent cure of female diseases .of the.
character indicated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the medical device hereinafter described and claimed as In the accom anying drawing forming part of this speciication,Figure 1 is a see- -a practical embodiment thereof.
showing the method of applying the device of this invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the device. Fig. 3 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 4 is a sectional view. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a modified form of' the invention.
As shown in the drawing, the device of this invention comprises a plurality of threads '1 which consist of any suitable soft material such for example as silk. The threads .1 are bound together intermediate their ends in any suitable manner as indicated at 2. On what I shall for-convenience term the rear side of the binding'2, thethreads 1 are spread radially into the formation of a Wheel, so as to produce the effect of a sun with rays of light radiating therefrom as indicated in Fig. 2. The radial or sun formation at the rear end of the device is adapted to contact with the posterior ortion of the vagina surrounding the moutl f'of the womb as indicated at 3. At the forwardend of the device, the threads 1 are spread radially into a star formation as indicated in Fig. 3. The object in thusforming the forward ends of the threads 1 into a star formation is, that when the device is inserted into the vagina as 1ndicated in Fig. 1, the forward end of the device will be tapered so as not to fill the entire mouth of the with.
The threads 1 of the device are' rmanently impregnated with any suitab e antiseptic and-curative chemicals. By reason of the fact that the device is formed of soft sil'ken threads, it causes no discomfort to the wearer, and as the threads adhere closely to the affectedparts, it serves not only to absorb the excretions but also to treat parts constantly with the antiseptic and curative chemicals with which the threads are impregnated, and a permanent cure of the disease is efiected in time.
In order to insure that the sun formation vagina and yet contact thereaffected osterior portion of the vagina, it is preferab e to surround the intermediate por- 'tion of the threads 1 with a confining means to limit the spread of the threads, as, for ex ample, with a soft tube 4 constructed of any. suitable material such for example as rub ber. The tube 4 at its outer end is preferably formedwith a small flared portion as indicated at 5, and at its inner end with a large flared portion as indicated at 6. When inserting the device into the ,vagina, the large flared portion 6 assumes the position indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 4, and when the device has been inserted completely, the flared ortion 6 assumes the position shown in full lines so as to cause the sun formation shown in Fig. 2, to cover the posterior portion of the womb.
It will be understood that the improved device of this invention is used without the tube 4, when the vagina is small.
The device of this invention is peculiarly effective in the cure of female diseases by reason of the-fact that it is absorbent; that it is composed particularl of a natural or animal product such as si k, which will not injuriously affect the internal human organs. by contact; that it is impregnated with specially prepared chemicals which soothe and heal the affected parts and which are sufficiently permanent to permit the device to be washed whenever necessary; that the silken threads are strong, and yet softer than the mucous membrane; and that after insertion into the vagina, the device s reads and thus'covers ractically all the a ected parts of, the womii.
Changes in the precise embodiment of invention illustrated and described may be made within the scope of the following claims without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is 1. A medical device comprisin a plurality of threads,- and means for coni ining the threads at a point intermediate their ends, the threads projecting through said means and extending beyond the ends thereof, the
respective ends of the coniining means being of vdifferent diameters to correspondingly limit the spread of the threads.
2. A medical device comprising a plurality of soft threads, and a soft tube surrounding said threads intermediate their ends, said tube being formed with flared ends, and said threads being spread into radial formations atthe ends of said tube.
3. A medical device comprising amass of absorbent material, and an integral means for confining said material at a point intermediate its ends, said material projecting beyond said means, the respective ends of the confining means being of difl'erent diameters to correspondingly limit the spread of the. absorbent material.
In testimony whereof, I affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
