Description

x No. 879,319.
draws the strop towards him with enough .UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. RENO, OF KEWANNA, INDIANA.
COMPOUND FOR USE WITH RAZOR-STROPS.
Application filed September 20.1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. RENO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kewanna, in the county of Fulton and State of Indiana, 1 have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in a Compound for Use with azor Strops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in compounds for use with raz'or strops, and has for its objects, the provision of means whereby such articles may be rendered pliable and productive of the best attainable results;
urthermore to maintain such strops in condition for immediate service and which will operate more effectively and expeditiously t an those in common use. These objects are attained by the combination and treat ment, in a certain manner, of suoh'strops and a compound hereinafter fully described and claimed.
My compound consists of the following ingredients combined in the preparation stated, viz:
Iron oxid 10% Rouge 10% .Crocus 10% Glycerin- 5% Petrolatum 15% S ermaceti 5% allow These ingredients are to be thoroughly mingled by agitation, the same resulting in a reddish colored paste with the consistency of ordinary butter. v
To the hook 1, is attached the link 2, connecting with the upper cross bar 3, of the strop 4, which is provided with a similar bar- 5, at the lower end and connected with the handle 6. Y
In use, the operator grasps the handle,
force for the purpose required, and proceeds to mani ulate the razor on the surface of the strop,- ere shown as comprlsed of a fabric,
Specification of Letters Patent.
, body for holding the Patented Feb. 18. 1908:
Serial No. 393.812. (Specimena) but which may be leather or other preferred material. I
As such razor strops usually hang for long continued eriods, they naturally collect dust from the atmosphere and, even if pliable and in good condition originally, soon become dry and lose their usefulness, at least to an extent undesirable.
My invention consists in first cleansing the surface of the strop from dust and other accumulations by scraping, or even washing, if the surface be dry and hard.
The oxid of iron, rouge, and crocus give the necessary cutting or abrasive ualities, the tallow and spermaceti afford a esirable owder in the inter stices'of the material, t e 'etrolatum softens and renders the strop pliab e and the glycerin prevents it from drying.
Only occasional treatment is necessary, depending on the temperature and quantlty of dust atoms in the surrounding air.
I am aware that emollients and abrasives have before been used for this purpose but am unadvised that a reparation of like pro erties has been employed.
erefore, what I clalm as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A comfp'ound for use with razor strops consistingo, v v Ironoxid 10% Rouge- 10% Crocus 10% 'Glycerin 5% Petrolatum 15% Spermaceti 5% Tallow 45% p In testimony whereof Ihave signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
