No. 879,143. PATENTBD FEB. 18, 1908.

ROUNDABOUTp APPLICATION FILED JULY 29. 1901 HARRY S. OANTROVITZ, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
noU'NnABoUT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1908.
Application filed July 29. 1907. Serial No. 386.047.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY S. CANTROVITZ, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in. the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Round abouts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The improvements consist in what is herein shown, described and claimed; the object of the invention being to provide simple, economical roundabouts, especial reference being had to means for imparting an undu, lating motion to the cars or other carriers of the same.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a plan view of a fragment of a roundabout in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2, a central transverse sectional view of the same having parts thereof broken.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A indicates each of a series of trestles of varying height arranged at intervals in a circle and radial to the same. These trestles are supports for a pair of concentric rails B of a circular undulating track for the wheels C of cars D or other suitable carriers. In universal-joint connection with depending ears of each carrier is a stem E having sliding engagement with the outer socket-end b of a radial sweep F in pivotal connection at its other end with ribs c'of a central disk G, which disk has a rim (1 provided with vertical slots in which the several sweeps have play. The disk is also provided with a hub e fast on a spindle H that turns in the apex of a partly conical housing I and in a central socketf of a base-plate J to which the housing is bolted or otherwise suitably secured.
A bevel-gear wheel K is fast on the spindle H within the housing and meshed with a bevel-pinion L fast on a shaft M for which suitable bearings g are provided. A pulley N for a driving-belt is shown in connection with the shaft but power may be variously transmitted to said shaft to impart rotation to the disk G, through the medium of any suitable gearing connecting the shaft and spindle aforesaid.
Rotation being imparted to the disk the sweeps F are carried by the same to run the carriers on the undulating track, the play of the stems E in sliding connection with said sweeps serving to compensatefor the constantly varying distance between the diskhub and said carriers, whereby the carriers are prevented from swaying onsaid track, and because of the universal-joint connection of each stem with a carrier, cramping is avoided.
I claim:
1. A roundabout comprising a circular undulating track, a rotary center disk, radial sweeps in ivotal connection with the disk, stems having sliding connection with the outer ends of the sweeps, and carriers on the tracks in universal-joint connection with the stems.
2. A roundabout comprising a circular undulating track, a rotary center disk, radial sweeps in pivotal connection with the disk and having outer end sockets, stems in loose engagement with said sockets of the sweeps, and carriers on the track in universal-joint connection with the stems.
3. A roundabout comprising a circular undulating track, a rotary center disk having a vertically slotted rim, radial sweeps in pivotal connection with the disk and engaging the rim-slots of same, stems having sliding connection with the outer ends of the sweeps, and carriers in universal-joint connection with the stems.
4. A roundabout comprising a circular undulating track, a center disk having a hub, a spindle fast in the hub, bearings for the spindle, and drive-gear in connection with said spindle, radial sweeps in pivotal connection with said disk, stems having sliding connection with the outer ends of the sweeps, and carriers in universal-joint connection with the stems.
5. A roundabout comprising a circular undulating track, a center disk having a hub, a spindle fast in the hub, bearings for the spindle, inclosed drive-gear in connection with said spindle, radial sweeps in pivotal connection with said disk, stems having sliding connection with the outer ends of the sweeps, and carriers on the track in universal-joint connection with the stems.
6. A roundabout comprising a circular undulating track, a center disk, radial sweeps in pivotal connection with the disk, stems having sliding connection with the outer ends of the sweeps, carriers on the track universalhai re hefeunto set my haml at Milwaukee in joint connection with the stems, a spindle the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisfast in a hub of said disk, a gear-wheel fast on consin in the presence of two witnesses.
the spindle, a drive-shaft, a pinion on the HARRY S. CANTROVITZ. 5 shaft in mesh with the gear-wheel, and a Witnesses:
housing inclosing the gearing. I N. E. OLIPHANT,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I GEORGE FELBER.
