WESLEY S. PAULSON, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IN K-BOTTLE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb.v 4, 1908.
Application filed April 17| 1907. Serial No. 368.697.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VEsLEY S. PAULsoN, citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ink-Bottle Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction ot' that type ol stands which are employed in connection with ink bottles and the like to prevent the same from being accidentally overturned when resting upon a desk or other support, and has 'for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character which can be readily struck up from a single piece ol sheet material. In general the invention comprises a base plate carrying novel means for engaging the bottle, the said means comprising a series of spring tongues having different lengths and clamping the sides of the bottle in dillerent hori- Zontal planes whereby the same is eilectively held in an upright position and prevented from being accidentally overturned.
F or a full description of the invention and the merits thereotl and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and themeans for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view through the stand on the line -a' of Fig.- 2 showing the same as applied to a pair of bottles. Fig. 2 is a top plan view ol' the stand before the tongues are bent outwardly. Fig. 3 is a similar view of a portion of the stand the tongues being shown as bent outwardly.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Specifically describing the present embodimentof the invention the numeral l designates the base plate which is formed of any suitable sheet material of a spring nature and preferably has the edges thereof returned upon themselves or bent inwardly as indicated at 2 in order to present a neat appearance and to eliminate all sharp corners and projections. In the present instance the base plate is shown as rectangular in shape and as provided with a pair of openings 3 receiving the body portion of the bottles indicated at 4. Integral with the base plate l and projecting within each of the openings 3 is a series ol spring tongues 5 which are designed to be bent upwardly and to have a spring engagement with the exterior oi the bottle 4. It will be observed that these tongues 5 are disposed in an approximately radial direction within the openings 3 and that they are tapered toward the inner ends thereof. A second series of tongues 6 projects within eaeh of the openings 8, the said tongues 6 being ol a di'l'lerent size from the tongues 5. In the present construction these tongues 6 are shorter than the tongues 5 and are arranged intermediate of the same so that they engage the lower portion of the bottle. It will thus be apparent that the long and short tongues 5 and respectively are arranged alternately with respect to each other and engage the bottle in diilerent horizontal planes whereby the same is effectively held in an upright position.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A stand for bottles and the like comprising a base plate having an opening formed therein, and a series ol' spring tongues of dii'lerent sizes projecting within the opening and designed to engage the bottle in dii'- lierent planes.
2. A stand for bottles and the like comprising a base plate having an opening formed therein, alternately arranged long and short spring tongues projecting within the opening and being designed to engage the bottle in different planes.
In testimony whereof I afhx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
