DISPLAY-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Jan. 28,1908.
Application filed November '7. 1907. Serial No. @1046.
'l '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CURTIS S. Corr and LOUIS FRANK, citizens of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of hz'lorgan and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to display racks for exhibiting bolts of lace, braid, ribbon, etc., in an attractive manner and consists of a device'comprising grooved shelves supported by step-forms having uprights for holding their upper ends, removably secured thereto. An inverted step form is removably secured to each of said step forms by means of dowelpins and serve to hold the shelves in position while the upper edges of the inverted step forms are provided with transverse notches or grooves to receive rods to hold the upper ends of the bolts of lace, etc., supported by the grooved shelves. Other rods are provided having loops to engage the upper and lower of the first mentioned rods to divide the space occupied by the rack into sections for the reception of the bolts.
The details of the construction of our invention will be described. hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front view of a show case with our improved display rack therein, Fig. 2, a side view, Fig. 3, a detail view of one of the end supports dismembered, and Fig. 1, a detail view of one of the division. rods.
In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts through.-
out the several views.
A indicates a show case in which our improved display rack may be mounted though it may be set upon a table, counter or any suitable place if preferred.
1 indicates a board or plate having one end resting on the bottom of the show case A or 011 the table or counter and the other end supported by an upright post 2 having its lower end secured to the bottom. of the show case and its upper end provided with a longitudinal groove 3 to receive the upper end of the step form 1., which is secured therein by a nail or screw. The upper edge of plate or board 1 is provided with rectangular notches 4 forming supports for grooved shelves 6 indicates another plate or board having its lower edge provided with recta ngular and secured in position by means of dowel pins 8 on the upper edge of plate 1 fitting in sockets 9 in the lower edge of plate 6. The upper edge of plate 6 also fits into groove 3 in post 2 and may be secured to the post by means of a nail or screw as in the case of plate or board 1. When the shelves 5 are placed on plate 1 and plate 6 is in position it will be understood that they are securely clamped in position by the sides of rectangular notches 4 and 7 except the lowermost shelf on plate 1. To hold this shelf in position I provide a projection 10 on plate 6 that engages the groove in said lowermost shelf and securely holds it in position.
The upper edge of plate 6 is provided with a series of notches 11 to receive rods 12 to support the upper portion of reels 13 that rest on shelves 5.
14 indicates division rods having loops 15 at their ends to engage the upper and lowermost rods 12 to divide the rack into sections to insure placing the reels of lace, etc., neatly therein.
16 indicates a strip secured on the upper edge of each'plate 6 to hold the rods 12 in place in notches 11 the strips that are secured to the end plates being provided with a downwardly extending portion 17 on the outside of the rack to cover the ends of notches 11 and hold rods 12 in position. The end boards 1 are also provided with a strip 18 on the outside of the rack to cover the ends of shelves 5.
W hen the rack is installed in a show-case a shelf 5 is placed on the bottom of the show case in front of the boards 1 as shown at 19 and the reels 13 supported thereby lean against the lowermost rod 12 and the reels resting on the lowermost shelf supported by plate 1 leans against the second rod and so on, but when the rack is set up on a counter or table the shelf 19 may be dispensed with and the lowermost rod 12 will serve to prevent the reels 13 on the lowermost shelf 5 from falling forward.
Having thus described our invention what we claim is 1. In a display rack, plates having rectangular notches in their upper edges, shelves supported. in said notches, and other plates provided with notches complementary to the notches in the first-mentioned plates and removably secured thereto to hold the shelves in position, substantially as shown and denotches 7 complementary to the notches 4 scribed.
the shelves in position, the upper edges of the last described plates provided with notches, and rods secured in said notches, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a display rack, plates having rectangular notches, in their upper edges, shelves supported in said notches, dowel pins secured to said plates, other plates having sockets to receive said dowel pins, their lower edges formed with rectangular notches complementary to the rectangular notches in the first-mentioned plates and their upper edges formed with other notches, and rods resting in the last mentioned notches, substantially as shown and described.
4. A display rack comprising plates having rectangular notches in their upper edges, grooved shelves supported in said notches, dowel pins secured to said plates, other plates having sockets to receive said dowel pins, their lower edges formed with rectangular notches complementary to the rectangu- 5. In a display rack, plates having rectangular notches in their upper edges, a plurality of shelves supported on said notches, and means to simultaneously clamp the shelves to each of said plates, substantially as shown and described.
6. In a display rack, plates having rectangular notches, shelves supported on said notches, and other plates removably secured to the first-mentioned plates to hold the shelves in position, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we hereto aHiX our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
