HMIRA M UNGER, "or LOGAN/SPORT, INDIANA. Laim Para@ No. 87,732,V decena-rch 9, 1869.
IIVIPROVEMET N BOTTLE-ORKING- A P-IPARAIU'S.-
'l'he Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, HIRAM UNGER, of Logansport, in the county of Cass, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Oorking Bottles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of. the same, reference being had tothe annexed drawings, making part of this speciiication, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a part of the mechanlsni.
Figure 3 is a vertical section ofthe cork-socket.
Figure 4, a plan of the adjustable base, and
Figure 5 is a vertical section ofthe saine.
The same letters are employed in all of the figures in the designation of parts which are'identical.
A is a vertical rod, projecting from a table or other support.
On this rod-'is placed the adjustable bracket B, attached to the rod by set-screws, C, attached to the eyes through which the rod passes. D is a socket, to hold the cork. It is made tapering, to conform to the shape of the cork, and attached to the bracket B, so as .to stand vertically.
E E are eyes, forming guides for' the reciprocating plunger F, which plays vertically over the socket D, into which it may be forced b'y-pressure applied to the upper end.
G is a spring, extending from the bracket, and attached to the reciprocating plunger F, its tension being suicient to raise the latter.
H is an adjustable guide, attached' to the socket, so as to receive the end of the neck of the bottle, and hold it in such position on the table, that the neck will be in place to receive the cork, when pressed out of the socket .by the plunger.
0n the inside of the socket D, I add an adjustable dining, 1)', shown in iig. 3. This may be formed by one of a series of thrnbles, of various internal diameters, so as to receive corks of dierent sizes.
That the bottles may be more readily adjusted to the socket, when there are slight dilerenc'es in the sizes of bottles, I construct the stand I, through which passes the rod A.
This stand has a vertical reciprocating movement, being regulated by the oval or eccentric bearing M, which supports it, so that, by turning the latter, the platform 'I `will be elevated or depressed.
L is a spring, acting ou the bearing I, to return it to its normalposition, when relieved from pressure on the lever bywhich it is actuated. v
WhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
