If the thread were drawn straight from the needle across. the tongue, it would be very liable to catch therein, and it would be diffi cult to get it out. 5. In a sewing machine having stitchforming mechanism, including a device for carrying the thread over the edge of the presser foot, a needle, a presser foot having a tongue, a notch or recess in said presser foot-located in the path of-said thread-carrying device, and in advance of said needle,
