HOOK AND EYE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1907.
Application filed November 21.1905. Serial N6. 288.406.
ful Hook and Eye, of which the tollowingis a specification.
lhis invention relates generally, to gar- 10 ment hooks, and particularly to one ol that class employed in connection with an eye.
The object of the invention is to improve the construction, increase the el'licicncy, and
render the locking relation between the hook I and the eye more stable in character.
With the above and other objects in view,
as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in thenovcl construction and con'ibii'iation of parts of a garment hook, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed. i In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of one form of hook constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fi 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thcret'irough. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of still another form of hook, and Fig. 4 is a side view thereof.
The hook shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is constructed from a single piece of wire ofsuitablo gage, which is bent'upon itseli" to form a bill 1, the members of which arespaced apart,
thence-bent to form two eyes 2 and 3 which are disposed intermediate of the length of the bill, thence bent to form two shank members 4 and 5, the terminal of the shank member 4 being formed into a complete eye 6, the
40 terminal of the member 5 being bent to form an eye' 7, thence continued forwardly between the shanks 4 and 5, and formed with a bend or hump -8, which is disposed intermediate of the length of the bill and preferably slightly in rear of the eyes 2 and 3, the
end portion of the shank member 5 being projected downward between the eyes, as shown at 9. H) in advance. of the eyes 2 and 3, and formed by the bond 11 of the bill, will lorm a space in which the bend or loop of a garment eye will rest, and any tendency to separation of the eye from the hook will be checked by the former contacting withthe forward bonds or As shown in Fig. 2, the space E 5 tures in the presence of two witnesses.
coils of the eyes 2 and 3; but should the eye work past the coils or bonds, it will be pre vented from becoming separated from the hook by the bend or hump S.
In the form ol the invention shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the bill 19 is constructed substantially as shown in Fig. 1 and the stock is bent to form two laterally projecting eyes 20 disposed approximately intermediate of the ends of the bill, thence into two upturned bonds or humps 21, that are disposed adjacent to the terminal of the bill, thence into two approximately parallel disposed shank members 22, the terminals of the shank members being formed into eyes 23.
In each form of the invention it will be seen that there are two sets of eyes provided to eiiect securing of the hook to the garment and that one pair of these eyes in each form is disposed approximately intermediate of the len th of tliebillgSo that this latter part will be old closely against the garment and against lifting. Furthermore, in each form there is means provided whereby the eye will be held positively assembled with the book, this in the form of the invention shown in Fig. 1 being effected by the bonds 2 and 3 and hump R; and in the form of the invention shown in Fig. 3 by the hum s 21. In this last-named form the hold of t '18 eye with the hook is also rendered more stable by the eyes 20, which, as shown in Fig. 4, will form a crotch 25 in conjunction with the under members 24 of the bill to secure this result.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A garment hook formed of wire bent to produce shank members terminating at one end in eyes, said shank members being coiled intermediate their ends and mergin into a bill extending across the coils, said in and coils forming a constricted passage, and a hump formed integral with one of the shank members and adjacent the coils and the terminal of the bill, said bump the coils and close. to the bill.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereto aflixed our signa- (JIJAUDE ll. GASKINS. WlIiliIAM II. KEISER. \Vitncsses:
