No. 874,523I
UNITED STATES PATENT (IVFIC/rV BALL-COCK.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that l, .Limits E. Mnionnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bur- I lington, in thel county of Chittenden and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful improvement in a Ball-Cock, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to 'ball cocks and more particularly to ball cocks for flush tanks, the object being to provide a valve which is very simple and cheap in constructionand one which is noiecless in operation.
Another object of my invention is to provid-e a' valve with a reversible seat so that it can bereadilyrcversed when one has become worn out and 4one which can be readily replaced by a' new one when desired. i i
Another object of my invention is to provide a strainer in connection with the valve so that the valves are protected fromthe chips, scales, gravel and sand which cause the valves to leak and at the same time serving the purpose of making the valves noiseless.
A still further object oi myinventionis to provide the valves with an ordinargyT rubber or leather washer whichcan be readily replaced'when desired without the use of tools.
A further object of my invention is to provide the arni carrying the iloat with a roller adapted to bear against the arincarrying a valve cap-eso that all noises and friction is prevented.
With these vario-ns objects in view, the
'invention consists in the novel features oi construction, hereinafter fully described and l ointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification f-Figure 1 is a section thrpiigh a tank showing my improved-hush valve in place. Fig. 2 isa top plan view of the saine the tank partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a side view of the flush valve showing it provided with a modified head carrying the iloatrod. Fig. Ll isa vertical sectional 'view through thevalve and tank. Fig. 5 'is a section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4 the Ato valve seat being removed. Fig. 6 is a perspective view oithe collar provided with supporting' arms. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the enlarged end or' the pipe section. Fig. 8 is `a perspective view ofjthe arm. carry-- ing the capvalve provided with the washer. Fig. 9 is a perspective view of the head carry- 'ing the float rod. Fig. l() is a perspective epecication of Letters Patent.
Application tiled July 26.1906. Serial No, 327,872-
ratentecl Dec. 24, 1907'.
Fig. il is a Fig. 12 is view ol the reversible seat. persl'iective view of the washer.
a perspective view of my improved strainer.
Referring to the drawing A indicates an ordinary tank provided with an opening in its bottoni adjacent one end in which is arranged a pipe section .B provided with an enlarged engl forming a shoulderon which is arranged a rubber washer C resting against the bottom. The other end. of the pipe is threaded, carrying a rubber washer C', and a mit C, which is adapted to clamp the pipe therein so as to form awater tight joint. A supplypipe C3, is adapted to be connected to the en oi' the pi e section in theordinary manner. The en arged end of the pipe B is rovided with bores of two diameters', the arger bore beingx internally .thre'aded.
rovide with oppositely disposed arms D' aving angled ends, is seated on the shoulder formed by the smallerbore, the angled ends oi the arm resting on the' shoulder formed by the larger bore so that the strainer can be easily taken out when desired. A pipe E, having rounded ends to form valve'seats and a central iiange E', having threads formed on its edge, is adapted to be secured into the larger bore so as to form a reversible valve seat which can' be easily'replaced by a new one when desired.
Mounted on the enlarged end foi' the pipe B is a collar F having o posite disposed u'pwardly extending arms F', F2, having inforcated ends, the'wal'isoi which are apertured. The arm F extends upwardly at an. angle and the arm F2, extends up vertically above the arm F', and the bifurcation formed therein is greater than the arin F' Pivoted between the biiurcatioiii in the arm F', on a pin G' is the reduced apertured end of an arm G, which is provided with a flattened free end'.
A, series ol erforated disks D forming a strainer `i Secured to the arm G midway of its length is a valve cap l-i provided with .a central depression iorniing a recess in which is mounted rubber or leather Washer I, adaptedto bean against the end oi the pipe E and.`completely close the same. fi Mounted Win the biinrcated arm F2, on a pin J', is a lever l provided with a fork J2, in
.which is mounted a roller J3, adapted to bear .against the flattened end oi' the arm .A curvedY armJ, rejects arm G and open the valve. The lever J .is provided with a socket in which a rod K is secured provided with a iioat K at its end.
In 1* ig. 3 I have shown a lever L provided with spaced arms L between which the fiattened end of' the arm is adapted' to fit for i opening and closing the valve.
From the foregoing description it will' be readily seen that I have provided a 'very ef fective valve 'which is not apt to get out of order and one which can be very easilyrepaired if necessary as the parts can be readily replaced by new ones.
vided with a threadedcentral flange adapted to be screwed into said threaded bore, a perforated disk seated on the shoulder formed by the small bore,'pr0vided with oppositely disposed upwardly extending arms having angled ends adapted to rest on the shoulders formed by the threaded bore under the flange of the pipe, a collar mounted on said ipe under the enlargedhead, rovided wit op ositely disposed upwar y extending b ur cated arms of different lengths, the walls of which are apertnred, an arm pivotally vmounted between the bifurcation of the' shorter arm provided with a oa forming a valve adapted to it over the en of the pipe seeuredin the head, the end oi' said bar being flattened at itsi'ree end, a lever mounted in Ithe bifurcation of thev longer arm provided with a' forkJ earryinga roller adapted to engage the top of theiiattened end of said bar,
a curved arm projecting downwardly from said lever, ada ted to engage the under side of the lattene end of the arm, a rod secured in said head carrying a float, and means for securing said (pipe in saidtank, for the pur pose describe JAMES E. MEAGHER.
