This invention relates to an arran for the minimizing oi rolling niovonnmis.oi vessels, without the rolling inovenn-nts being converted into nto-hing i'noveinents and i consists of a. plurality of rotating bodies which are suspended in swinging supports adopted. to he'brnkvd, and which rotate in opposite directions with respcct to each otl'iei'.
It is known that the rolling motion of vesse s has been diminished through the: mo diuni of one or more rotatable elei'nei'its mounted in swinging supports adapted to be braked, for exzunple, as set forth in Letters- Pntent 769493 of September 6, 1904; but when the rolling motion is diminished the vessels hull is caused to pitch, that is to say, hen the rolling motion is diminished a pitching motion is produced, as has been. authenticated, reference being bad to Zeitschrift (les l' erei'nes (leutcclzer Ingeniewe, June 25th, 1904-, page 983, and also the some publ'mtion of date ofApril 2, 1904, page 478. In view of such conditirnis it is obvious that. the causing of the vessel pitching when climinishing the rolling action of the vessel is very Objectionable, and to overcome the produc'ing of the pitchin when minimizing the roliing action is the object of this invention, and such objectis attained by setting up the rota-table elements in such a. manner that they will. rotate in pairs in opposite directions with respect to each other, whereby on the one hand, set forth in Patent 769,493, there are produced couples of forces, which i'nininiize the rolling movement, but on the other hood, the tronsiornnitiou of this rolling n'ioveiuent into n pitching movement is prevented, US the couples ol forces, which would produce this pitching niovei-i'ient, obtsin o1iposits direction of rotation with respect to each other and therefore mutually counternot each other. The driving apparatus for the flywheels is not shown, but it will be understood that the some can be of any suitable construction. As indicated by the arrows in Figs. 1 and 3, the two fly-wheels are to rotate in opposite directions, so that if the fly-Wheel m, when viewer: from above, rotates in the direction of the hands of a clock then the direction of rotation of the flywheel m is reversed.

A. device for minimizing the rolling movements of a vessel Witl'io'ut simultaneously producing pitching movement, comprising a pair of rotatable elements having the axis t ieroof capable of being angularly displaced, one of said elements rotating in an opposite direction with respect to the other of said elements, means whereby the axis of each of said elements can be angularly displaced, and braking means for arresting the angular displacement of said elements.
