A portion 19 of arcuate form is connected with each drop arm 8,?. and forms a limiting stop for preventing vtheliandle from swinging too far outward orlrisiig too hi h, as will be understood by dotted ylines in ig. 8. Rubber buffers 6b are mounted upon the handle and serve to cushion the same relatively to the body portion of the casket.

In the forni shown in Fig. 4 the construction -is nearly the same 'as that above described. -The only dierence is that the head 2() (corresponding tothe -head 11 in the other figures) is held position by a screw bolt 21 provided with a head 22, the. l khead being disposed within the casket and a fragmentary side elevation the screw bolt extending outwardly to enl gage .the head 20. In this case a gasket 23 to maintain the same airtight relatively to the body portion of the casket.

It will be.l noted that the .pins -18 do not extend into the plate 9' but.terminate iush withthe outer edges of the lugs 12, 17. The i I' pins, however, are unable to travel endwise because of the thickened' portions 10 of the plate 9. By this arrangement. when A`the handle is swung outward' and pressureap-g plied to its under surface for the purpose of lifting the casketjthe strain islvnot thrown' upon the plate 9. Such being-the case it is notnecessary to secure the plate '9 to the side of the casket by aid of unsightly screws7 bolts or nails, as there is little or no strain upon it, the strain being directly borne by l the heads 11 or 20, as the case may be, and
